Cahill- hungry from a lower league club
Arteta- failed at a mid table Spanish club
Pienaar- failed at an OK Dortmund
Lukaku- young but didnt get success at Chelsea
Lescott- hungry from a lower league club
Jagielka- decent season with a relegated club
Gueye- ok with a relegated club
Baines- good young player from relegated club
Coleman - 60k from Ireland
Richarlison- expensive young player after ok season
Barry- free transfer veteran from champions

Could name dozens of players with similar backgrounds for us that didn't work out...

I don't see a pattern here... Maybe minus one or two these have been our best players over a decade. Teams always have different needs and there is never a one size fits all.
Gueye had a very good year even though they got relegated. Although Barry was out of contract we still had to pay city a fee as it was part of the loan deal. 1.5 or 2 mil I think.

...thought he was really disappointing for Villa against us. Captain of a side facing relegation, he failed to make the most of many promising situations he was in.
They highlighted it a lot during the match/coverage how he's had very little impact since the restart. I took a little look at an AVFC forum yesterday to bathe in their anguish the moment when Walcott equalised and noticed comments made during the match were often along the lines of 'Jack wants his move away then'.

we should go for Ünder, their manager doesn't give him much of a chance, I doubt he rates him at all, a wonderkid though neverthless. turned 23 a few days ago

yeah that's a worry

I have watched him many times in Ireland youth teams and while a quality player there does appear to be off the field baggage as well as inconsistent performances. For the money Villa would be looking you could be signing proven quality instead of rolling the dice on Grealish.

well, i disagree but respectfully see your point of view. i have a lot of time for grealish and think that he would thrive more at everton than at manchester. he could be the talismanic leader we've been crying out for.
