Hmm I wouldn’t agree myself, its been more fluid I think over recent football history, I can remember a top two, then top four, now a big six over a relatively short peice of PL football, that in itself shows a level of dynamic change within CL qualification and clubs breaking the glass ceiling. I can remember Blackburn, Newcastle and Leicester all playing CL, while we were finishing ahead of Mordor and Spurs annually not so long ago. The glass ceiling sometimes can be a mentality.
Blackburn was ages ago money wise. Leicester is on the list of team that have made it but again it is something like 55 of the last 60 being the elite clubs

Overarching point here being as a club that hasn't broken through into 6th in half a decade should maybe consider taking it slow given the size of the task breaking through is.

I think we are back to the apart from the non “elite clubs” who qualified for the CL, no non elite club qualified for the CL.

In the context of football history mate, it’s not all that long ago, certainly doesn’t feel that way to me with Blackburn, Newcastle and Leicester , ourselves maybe you are younger then me. In fact all seems like recent enough history to me.

We are seeing teams overtaking each other and dropping out. Like I said we were finishing ahead Mordor and Spurs just a few years ago, they over took us, now they are “big six”, or elite as you describe them, thats happened in a short space of time. There was no big six up to a couple of years ago, which suggests how fluid it can be, to progress. Arsenal have dropped out as did Utd, Chelsea to. From that point of view it’s very possible and more dynamic then you suggest and you are being libel with the tag elite.

Yes there is a considerable effort to progress to get there, but it’s far from impossible, untrodden, nor should we be weighed down by the psychological invisible glass ceiling of fourth - fifth place. A club like Everton should definitely be aiming to compete for CL football, Europa league should be a minimum.

But we need to get our house in order first admittedly, but I definitely don’t look at it as a closed shop. I know you are playing the odds, if not being liberal in your adoption of the label of elite, but sport has a habit of bloody nosing stats and odds it’s why we love it. Can we, of course we can, we’ve done it, others have, will we, it’s against the odds but not massively the biggest shock in recent years if a team bolted unexpectedly and did it.

It's considerably less fluid than you're making out imo. The numbers aren't debatable. 6 clubs accounting for 58 of the last 60 CL spots is what it is.

Thats a sample mate, within a range any one can pick one to prove their point. You can go back 50 years to disprove the point and prove a cycle.

As I said the fact it’s gone from top 2, to top 4, to big six shows in a short space of time that’s how dynamic it can be if your not weighed by the mental construct.
