I’m don’t think we need to ‘balance the books’. If we do owe any money then it’s Usmanov owing money to himself, and the sale of a player is actually one of the ways that allows you to spend without incurring a loss.

And FFP is a load of crap anyway. The punishments are pathetic even if you are found to have breached the rules and haven’t used one of the numerous methods to get around it.

We lost over £100m in our last set of annual accounts.

It is important for the club to be sustainable. Selling players is an important part of that.

Oh look another week and no new players despite the season being just around the corner and us desperately needing a minimum 4 new players in our starting line up.

There are times when selling a player makes sense, but I don’t think selling your best players is ever a recipe for success. I don’t think we need to worry about our finances too much right now, not when our de facto owner is wealthier than Roman Abramovich.

Football doesn't work like that.

We can't have huge losses year after year.

We have to be mature about our current position.

Maybe, and at the right price maybe worth a punt. But we took that punt last year on his Italian counterpart and we're still working our way through how we deal with him/his progression. Unless celtic take a straight swap i cant see why we take the same gamble again (for considerably more money if you believe the 'scramble'
I agree with you on the price issue but feel it should be less of a gamble as although Scottish football clearly isn't at the standard of the Premier league the style & intensity is similar so he shouldn't have the same issues adapting... im not sure if theres even any truth in it tbh
