I was a massive Gomes fan. But then I realised that he doesn’t play well every week. In fact, he’s dreadful most weeks. That’s the difference between crap, average, above average and good players. He doesn’t go further than that. When will our fans realise that playing well every whenever games (6,7,8, works games even) doesn’t contribute a good player. If we had eleven Gomes’ playing for us, we would be Bottom

To add to the above. Maybe he just needs good players round him. Where did we buy him from?

I'd accept that entirely. I think the hope is that he might feel a bit liberated with some bite and aggression in midfield.

His issues are psychological in the main, I don't think he backs his own ability and is dragged down by a "star" label in a team that is clearly struggling.

That's only a hope though. Even before his injury he was far too much of a sideways crab for me.

Not being considered an automatic starter might also perversely take some pressure off. But we need to see a far more impactful contribution from him, his goals and assists numbers are unacceptable for a player with the reputation he has.

Hes played for Barca + abused massively and had some kind of confidence crisis and somewhat of a 'breakdown'.

So he cant play better with top class players.

Then hes played for us and been massively inconsistent when alongside our dross when he could have been a standout player.


Lovely chap and very handsome but if he looked like Robert Prosinecki and had an attitude like Delph we'd all want him sold.

Cant see him lasting past this season.

Obviously Gbamin wont be starting straight away but i imagine thats what Brands may have in mind.

It won't happen but Zaha would work perfectly I think. All teams double up on him which would create space for James and Richarlison to take advantage of.

Yeah, of course we can. It's more than just a reserve. He's a proven, quality keeper who has the capability of stepping in should Pickford's performance levels drop to a similar level of that of last season. Puts pressure on Pickford to perform to his best every week. He's far too complacent at the moment.

If we sign Allan, James and Docoure then I cannot see a place in the team for Gomes or Sigurdsson in a first eleven.
But, I think it is unlikely all three will stay fit for the season so we will probably see a good deal of rotation which will hopefully keep them all fresh and fit.
I do believe however that financial constraints alone would mean that a reasonable bid for Gomes or Sigurdsson could mean their sale.

I had the same argument about Bernard 12 months ago about fans who went overboard on a 10 minute spell with a nutmeg and a drag back. Consistency makes good players. Not the odd game, Liverpool away, Sheff it’s away. People even mention the game......imagine mentioning a Particular game about actual good players......

Sangare is a name that's dropped in at every midfield discussion yet no one has bought him and if true 10 million is absolute peanuts you would think there would be a long list of clubs fighting for his signature

It's cause he's not actually very good at all. The absolute lack of strong interest in him from any club is telling.
