If loaning Tomori helps us develop Branthwaite by allowing him a good loan, then that's great.

If we also develop a Chelsea player in the process, I think we have to live with that.

But if he's good, we can afford to buy him. It's all about whether he'd want to come.

If Tomori plays well for us for 12 months and Branthwaite then comes back ready to play, then I doubt anyone would complain.
If Tomori is a top level player because of us and he leaves to go help Chelsea I will in fact complain

He's an excellent finisher to be fair. If you could somehow manage to combine the two you'd have a fine striker

He has had one great season where Southampton focused all their play around him. Their second highest scorer only got 5. Most teams have a couple of outlets and end up scoring more overall as a team.

Yeah we probably all would, but there's a bigger picture here.

Would we ever have got Rom without the loan?
No but we were also a bit fortunate that no one else was smart enough to go in. I would just like us to cover our bases and have an option included. It doesn't even have to be particularly realistic, something like 40m, just in case he lights the league up.

This doesn't make much sense to me unless we were selling one of Mina/Keane/Holgate. Holgate is a must keep for me, Keane just signed a new deal, and Mina is James' mate.

I'd be surprised personally. Branthwaite is sufficient as fourth choice too.

You need 4 CBs, Mina and Keane are similar profiles, aerially strong, good 1v1, Holgate is more of a jack of all trades, not to shabby in 1v1s, in the air, assured on the ball. What we're missing is a more athletic CB, someone who allows us to play higher up the pitch, Tomori fits that bill for me.

Give Gibson another year out on loan playing regularly as he should be, Branthwaite was probably forced into the side too soon, so another few months training with the side and then look to get him a loan in January.
