How so? If he signed him on a loan or at a cut-rate to what we sold him, then that is excellent business for a player that is still at the top of his game and to fill in for his injured replacement.

It would be like you selling me a bike for £50, and then one year later, it was in the same condition (if not better) and I sold it back to you for £25, after the bike you bought to replace popped a tyre. You'd think you were a genius.
Expect it’s not a bike, it’s a football player who is on the decline at 31.

Brands was brought in to improve the squad with signings. You telling me the fella is that limited that he has to look to players who not long left the club?

Wasn’t about that, but obviously your moving the goal posts. My point was he’s not coming to us without having a say in transfers. You think differently fair enough let’s leave at that.
I really wasn't trying to move the goal posts. I acknowledged in my first post that we aren't the same level as those clubs, but in the past he was willing to let a DOF do that part of it so it isn't impossible that he was willing to do that here too.

I honestly can't say what his motivation for coming here was in full. I truly believe part of it is that after Napoli his options were probably not going to be too numerous. We offered a combination of ambition, money and the top league that might have topped anything else he could have gotten this coming summer so he jumped. But could it have been greater freedom to build what he wants? Sure that is possible too.

Gana or Allan for me. Would be great to have one of them in the middle, proper experienced head. But still feel we'd need someone else in that position to compete with Gomes.

Having Schneiderlin, Delph and Davies as backup just doesn't cut it - even more so with Gbamin struggling.

I believe that Carlo after relative failure at Bayern and Napoli wanted a project with a club that had ambition , time , finances and would believe in him / love him.
If I am right then Mr Moshiri and Usmanov have sold that vision to him.
He will have money (.obviously not unlimited) to spend and will have a major say in transfer dealings.
You don't hire someone of his calibre and track record and not give him the tools to do the job.

The Echo really putting on the line saying loans and swoops only - someone is going to look silly if that does not pan out.

Of course he’ll have a say, but even he himself has said that FINAL say isn’t his role and that he’s fine with it.

Something along the lines of “the DOF is an important role and is key to assembling the team. I might have some suggestions on which players to buy but at the end of the day my job is to coach the players the DOF provides”

Pretty sure it was from his book.

think also his role entails, if say Angrily to fancies a certain player and for some reason we can't get him, price too high, player doesn't want to come, then it would be Brands job to find an acceptable alternative.

Good Morning fellow blues, today's top 3 transfer targets from Roman's Research are:-

1. Odsonne Edouard - 22 year old striker, 62 goals in 126 games - some people might argue he plays in a mickey mouse league and that their great nan could score 100 goals in a season but don't forget Virgil Van Dijk was also playing in that mickey mouse league at the same age. One for the future. Could turn out to be the next aubamayeng.

2. Denzel Dumfries - 24 year year old right back, lets face it Coleman is old and Sidibe is not good enough. We need to sign a decent right back as a priority for next season. Denzel has it all, pace, power, strength and goals. He is an attacking right back and has an aggressive playing style.

3. Ruben Dias - 23 year old centre back - with Mina's constant injury problems and Keane's lack of pace and positional awareness, we need a bloody good centre half to command our Defence. The only problem is that he will cost a fair bit of wonga as he signed a new contract in November 2019. However, in Usmanov we trust. This guy is future captain material.
