I always thought we needed to strengthen two or three key positions anyway. Quality over quantity at this stage. We have needed continuity and consistency for a long time now, making to many changes isnt great. We need balance at central midfield, center half and the right flank. If we get that ill be happy. Be glorious if we could loose five or six hangers on.

....I think power, pace and athleticism are a vital requirement for those defensive positions, especially given the back four can become exposed in a 4-4-2. The mid-80s team is a decent blueprint with Stevens, Van den Hauwe and Ratcliffe having Rolls Royce engines.

I see us sitting deeper at the back if im honest mate, i think that is the Italian way and i have noticed we are deeper since Carlo came in. A deep compact four and the ability to transition the ball from the back line to midfield or over the top on to pace will be the skill set we are looking for in in a center half in my opinion, its why i think we are looking at Thiago Silva in my opinion.

In central midfield we want an aggressive presser, a defensive shield who can close down or mark space, someone with an engine who can get forward and back and also high press and who can transition play, like Allan or Ndidi. A Reidy type.

On the right im open minded, i can see the logic if they are having a sniff at Fraser, i see a lot of balls over the top to DCL, Richarlision and to the wingers and going direct at stages, pace on the wings always helps in that method of playing. Or else you are looking at someone who can cause problems and create and make the ball stick up there someone like Everton.

For me i think we will go with a back line sitting deep protecting the house, not necessarily the speediest, but who can transition out to midfield or over the top early. A central midfielder who can anchor, press, shield, but with an engine to press high and contribute offensively and either pace on the wing when we go over the top direct or someone with good technical ability or trickery to make the ball stick or create when it get up there early. Plan A, is keep the house safe and then direct in my opinion with quick transition over the top and back ourselves with DCL, Richarlison and pace on the wings, Plan B is we will play a pressing game, getting crosses in etc.

I’m aware of that. I’m just saying if you buy players who fit one system and then appoint a manager who doesn’t play it then you have to own it. It’s not that he’s done something wrong, it’s just not an excuse for signings not working out.

To me you can only level it at him if he was there before Silva. He had no choice but to sign players for his system whether he has bigger ideas about the next manager and system. He couldn’t exactly say “no 10’s for you Silva it’s not how we’ll eventually play” could he?

Still being linked with Gabriel today for 22 million euros, Napoli are in as well. His current club are in no rush and will sell to the highest bidder. The player wants to wait and see if Napoli get champions league before making his decision.
Frank Kessie has been linked again, reports in Italy that he wants to move with us and Newcastle interested

Didn't Brands mention three players ? So has to be centre half, centre mid an right wing, hope he chooses the right ones. Don't mind buying less as long as they are the right ones, in the correct positions.
I think it could be more, depending on who we can ship out.

Ten other players on the park mate. Had a shaky start, settled into the club, and from then on in was one of our best players from January onwards. Also as I said we're not in a position to just dismiss players out of hand, We're not as good as you think we are unfortunately.

We have enough poor and average players as it is

I’m not levelling anything at him, I was just responding to a post saying it’s not his fault the manager plays a system that doesn’t suit the players he bought. I’m saying that doesn’t really work, because he could have picked another manager who does play that system, or told this manager to play a specific system. It’s within the remit of a DoF to do those things.

It also doesn’t really work because Ancelotti has said he’s playing this system because it’s the one that suits the players. So basically either the change of manager hasn’t been an issue or he didn’t do a very good job of picking players for the other system. Can’t really be both.

I’m really not having a go at brands. I think he’s done an ok job. I just think sometimes people talk like he can do no wrong and make excuses for him. This was one of those occasions.

Zouma experienced Everton. Knew the team, knew the project, knew the ambition. Rather than choosing to be part of what we're building he decided to try and fight for a spot at Chelsea....

He had his shot. I don't want him at this club as he clearly lacks ambition.

One would argue that joining us rather than going for a first team spot at a Champions league club with a chance of a title would be lacking ambition.

We had a chance (albeit slim) to get ourselves amongst the top 6 but we absolutely pissed the money away on Gylfi, Klassen, Keane, Bolasie etc.
The chance is gone for a long while now.

only Everton can balls things up that badly , nearly as bad as whenwe got 4th and thought Neville and Beattie were gonna fire us to the cl. You’re right I’m saying g the chance has gone , chelsea are spending big and signing decent players , Leicester have recruited well and have a good manager , spurs have Jose ( let’s hope he’s lost it ) , and arsenal have appointed arteta so hopefully he flops . We would need a massive city like spending spree to close any gap ino
