We are just three players away from having a decent side. All we need to do is keep our best players and then spend a minimum of 45 million pound on the three new players so that they can replace the three players that aren't good enough, and then we might become capable of beating a team in the top half. We are so close.

The old 'just 3 players away from'...jeez not that perpetual excuse.

45M yeah right...like that's going to happen.

we are NOT so close, we're 9th ahead of the mighty Watford...on GD...but then again we drew with them so maybe that's about right.

Until Martinez addresses the defensive problems, but as he's gone on record THREE times that I know off that 'he won't change'
He has also stated that 'set pieces are not Important'...and was it him who said something along the lines of...he's more about the 'performance' than the result.

And for all those blatting on for a 'Defensive Coach
a) It'll never happen ( see above )
b)Nor should it - you can't have 2 conflicting schools of thought on the shape of the team.

This game for me sums up our season for me perfectly. For the most part we played some really good football, but find ourselves making enough silly mistakes that leave us drawing at home to a mid table side whilst keeping us in mid table. Woo.

Very solid game and very unlucky not to take all three points.

Martienz does seem far too stingy with the subs though, could have done with Mirallas or Lennon.
And how exactly would Lennon change this game? He's a speed merchant, it would be waste to play him against deep (and brilliant to be fair) Palace defence. He's useful when we're winning due to his defensive workrate and ability to beat the high line when someones coming at us.

Mirallas did nothing when he played. He's too inconsistent to be a reliable sub.

All in all very good performance by US. We're propably the most entertaining team in this League yet people are still moaning. IF we manaage to keep this squad together, the results will come with experience - I'm pretty sure of it.

Will we ever see the best from this team? I don't know, but if we do we'll be going places. We just need that killer instinct but it will come someday and Martinez deserves a big big credit for building this squad and creating great style of Football.

Can someone tell me what the point of bringing on a clearly unfit Baines was? Absolute waste of a sub when you have Mirallas sitting there.

Well, that's not how you get to play European football my friend. We need to look at last 2 matches as 4 points dropped, not 2 points won - 'cause it was that way. We clearly were better sides both of the time and we need to use our chances more, we are simply not clinical enough. United are extremely boring, but are likely to play Champions League next year. I'd gladly swap for that.

Apart from some piss poor defending for their goal, that was just unlucky

We hit the woodwork three times and their keeper pulled off one of the best saves I've seen at Goodison for years (possibly the best since Tommy Myhre against Nathan Blake in 97/98)- we created easily enough to win the game comfortably, on another day we could have scored 4 or 5 against a Palace defence who had virtually parked the bus and were only interested in playing with Puncheon and that annoyingly good Bolasie on the counter when we were throwing men forward to win it.

Easy to see why Palace have such a good away record - they're very good defensively and they're a huge threat on the break

I'd accept there's an argument for Mirallas being brought on but Martinez seemed to suggest that he wanted two up front in his interview after the game, which I watched at about midnight after I got in, suggesting that the way Palace defend lead him to want as much presence in their box as possible - we had more touches in the opposition area than any other team this weekend in The Premier League

It's frustrating, but I put last night down to simply being unlucky and one piece of poor defending from a corner - To be fair, this is something which needs sorting out because it's getting beyond a joke now. Howard probably escapes the blame for this one but he still managed to look stupid

The performance was pretty good to watch and I admit this team had done more than enough to win against Palace but again we failed to capitalise due to poor defending.

We are now playing half way through in this so-called easier fixture period. As of today, we are 9th just above the mighty Waford on GD. I think the team is much better than this and the players know they can do a lot better. You simply have to transform performance to goals and cut out these poor defensive errors at the sametime. If we cannot get 3 points against the like of Palace at home and a poor team away then we might struggle to get into top 6. Here are a few points.

Howard - think he is struggling against these hoof ball and failing to deal with these crosses. He should have come off his line and punch away the ball more often.

Backline - clearly struggling at the moment. They don't attack the ball enough when defending corners. First thing first is to attack the ball and head it away like what Cahill used to do.

Cleveley - was impressed by him yesterday. Keep it up.

Deulofeu - relied too much on him hoping he would feed Rom. His corners weren't good as they cannot go beyond the near post.

Lukaku - as a target man the team tend to feed the ball through the middle but ain't working as the penalty area was packed with Palace players.

A bit odd that Mirallas and Naismith were not coming on after 60 mins since we need a catalyst and most importantly, the goals to get a win.

Not at all

Baines is 100 times better with the ball than Galloway - given we had more or less vacated our left hand side because we were playing with two strikers, I would guess Martinez wanted a little bit more quality at left back - Baines, with no support at all, played 3 or 4 lovely forward passes to Rom which Galloway wouldn't have been capable of

I understand the argument for Mirallas, but Martinez thought that two strikers was the way to chase the game and get another. You can argue both ways, but I see his logic.

To get him back involved and bring him up to match fitness. He didn't take anything away from our good performance. Putting Mirallas on could well have distrupted our game and have a negative effect on how we were playing. That is why Mirallas probably didn't come on because we were playing well enough as it was. You are talking with hindsight very much in mind and that is so easy to do.

I think there was defo a case for Mirallas to come on near the end last night. Quite a few of the attacking options were blowing out of their backsides for the last 15 mins, and with tiredness comes a decline in quality. Mirallas could have given us a bit of legs and direct running, which in turn may have opened up space and also taken the pressure off Lukaku and Deulofeu, who both seemed to be struggling at the end.

Kone just isn't the answer for me, and it pains me to watch him play for 90 mins. He's a limited footballer and pretty much everything he tried last night didn't come off. I understand Martinez trying to justify his inclusion by saying he wanted 2 upfront or something when we had the ball but we finished with a whimper really, when we should have been pushing for the winner.

Also set pieces are becoming a real concern. Defensively we don't seem to know what we're doing, and a lot of the time it's almost a lack of quality in the opposition set pieces rather than good defending on our part.

With our own corners what's with hitting the first man? With the way we seem to line up it's almost like that's the plan to hit that front zone, we rarely have anyone at the back. That strategy doesnt leave much margin for error for the taker, and it's so frustrating to watch.

We played some good stuff last night but it's possibly the most frustrated I've ever left Goodison in a long time.
