These players are mercenaries mate. Do you really think if they cant land one of our regular CL playing clubs they think "well, who finished 5th and 6th? I'll go to them"? Do they bollocks. They and their agent look at the wages they'll earn, the city they'll be in, and the stadium they'll play in. If all that package was at a club that finished mid-table they'd go for that club over and above any club that didn't have that package but finished 5th or 6th in the PL.
I largely agree with the notion that clubs like City, Utd, Liverpool and the London clubs can virtually finish anywhere in the table as their status and pedigree is already well and truly established and they would still have a recognisable name and huge following throughout Europe and beyond.

To become an elite club isn't something that can be attained in one year, Leicester won the league but are still not Manchester United. Yes what you say is true that these clubs can and will attract the best if in the champions league and even if not will be more favoured over comparative newcomers.

So while accepting the truth as it is now, we cannot just resign ourselves to permanent mediocrity, your point on top players looking at the elite of course is true. We can't compete at this time with those clubs as it patently isn't a level playing field, we can compete at the next level down only by being consistently making progress and aspiring to be better. Champions league may well prove beyond us but it's what we must aspire to. Forgetting the league and being the kind of team West Ham used to be relying on a good cup run once every few years for some excitement is not an option.

Not prioritising the league at least as much and possibly more than the cups would be a massive mistake both commercially and for future recruitment prospects.

after much consideration i think we should go with

---------------------------Robles-------------------------------

Browning------Holgate---------------Mori--------------Oviedo

Lennon--------Davies--------------Cleverley-------------Kone

----------------Valencia------------Niasse--------------------
if we can't beat norwich at home with this line up then we may as well go home.

Agree bar niasse. Everyone else deserves a run out. I'd have Del on who tends to crucify lower opposition and Ross, too at some point.

I think you can argue that Koemans presence will sell Everton to players. However, no player looking on at this summers events will be seeing Moshiris influence in the transfer market as a magnet. Everton were a shambles. If it had happened under Kenwright people would have been getting together mass protests at the ineptitude of it all.

I'm at a bit of a loss to understand the gloom of our transfer window.

A) there's no law starting you must annually give money to the parasites and mercenaries it attracts.

B) we kept Lukaku

C) stones has miles to go, clearly wanted out (Chelsea?, city? Anyone!?!), and we got proper cash.

D) Gueye. cut price and excellent on first showings

E) maybe Koeman liked what he saw?

we're champions league currently! and still growing into our best form, with green shoots of recovery in the legs of Coleman,Kev a better last outing for Ross, Barry excellent plus new faces such as holgate. My only disappointment was shelling out for bolasie, but he's been solid actually. I was hoping for a few more bargains from Holland perhaps.

Maybe mosh has stadiums in mind.

And Leicester added only two players ( Kante, mahrez, and maybe huth ) to become champs on what was essentially Pearson's squad who's already finished the previous season in champions form.

Let's build and not buy a team, we're Everton.

Apparently all kinds of deals were in place for top class players and they didn't sign because they were either at CL spot clubs or were looking for CL spot clubs as well as cash. So it didn't matter if we'd had a nosedive for two seasons as it would have been the same if we'd finished 7th a couple more times.
Did any of our high profile targets actually move anywhere?

Wouldn't rest to many players, want to win this

Lukaku is out
Rest
Barry
Jags
Coleman

So I would have
Stek
Holgate
Mori
Williams
Bainea
Gueye

Bolasie
Barkley
Mirrallas
Del
