...just hope it's not an achilles.

There's no suggestion it is is there? He hobbled off, I'm no physio but when a mate did his achilles he knew straight off and was screaming in pain, strikes me that DCL just took a bad knock. I hope that's all because we lost our momentum after he went off, he made space for Barkley and gave Rom a lift IMO, like him.

...they are nasty. I know I'm critical of Dr Irvine, especially after he examined the wrong leg when Bolasie got injured but he does put players back on the pitch when they are clearly carrying a bad injury.

It could make the difference between weeks and months out. I think it's time Dr Irvine did the honourable thing.

To his defence, diagnosing a Grade 1-2 tear in the knee is really difficult, especially with all the adrenaline in the middle of a match and all. Not easy for the person with the injury to be able to tell or accept it either. I should know, i did my MCL with a Grade 3 tear last year skiing in Austria, still felt good enough to ski down the bottom of the hill - i was subsequently out for 9 months.

Didn't see DCL's injury today though, too bad for the lad but he is young and oughta make it back

...you would hope he examined the right leg though!!! In this league they have their analysts watching tv and they can instantly recognise knee bend etc. Generally speaking you have a good idea if it's a bad one from the bend, especially if your foot is planted.

First half was spoiled by DCL's injury. Was expecting Valencia to replace him. Either way, Valencia did make a difference, mainly because of the support he offers Rom. Kevin did not offer the same sort of positioning/support that a Valencia/DCL can do.
Thought Gana looked a little off today, made some crucial mistakes. Lennon was ineffective, Barkely though had a good game. Rom played better with support, and scored the best goal of the game.
Great start to the year. Lets keep it going!

The unashamedly kopite editors of BBC sport tucking into the sour grapes this evening methinks :-

"Hectic schedule tires Southampton
Southampton were playing their third match in six days - compared with Everton's same number of outings in eight days - and they wilted after conceding the first goal."
Did they overlook the fact that Everton would have had a shorter gap between the Boxing day fixture and the Hull game.
Swings and roundabouts eh?

Buzzing.

Just had my first hospitality experience, and took my 6yr old nephew for his first ever match game experience. He loved it, even predicted the 3-0 in front of everybody the little trooper.

Proper proud right now today was fully ace.
....

Thought Barkley played reall, really well today. Just needs to work on his shooting, he always baloons them over!

Gana is immense. Davies also complemented him with good movement and small driving runs forward.

Lennon had a stinker, but his replacement Valencia played a blinder, we really messed them up when he came on.

Coleman needs to improve his crossing but otherwise was boss.

Everton are boss. Nephew absolutely loved it.

...hopefully it isn't an Achilles. You know when they snap but sometimes it's less serious. The incident was funny, it didn't look like his ankle buckled so that's what made me wonder. I'm probably talking rubbish, it's certainly not been reported as an Achilles.

Yoshida had plenty of time off to rest.

Still a good option to have on the bench though.

Except the team is crap when he plays. Even off the bench he changes the dynamic of the team from energetic to turgid.

So not a very good option off the bench if he can kill the momentum dead by coming on mate.

And this isn't a personal opinion, we have seen it happen this season!

I thought Williams played well, he won most 1 v 1 duels. Valencia turned the game and looked sharp, Lennon had a mare.

The 2nd half today is why it's so frustrating to be a Blue. There is no reason we can't play that style, with those performances week in week out. I really hope this is a new start. Ross looks well up for it now. Rom is unplayable when we get the ball to his feet. And I love love love Tom Davies. He should start every week from now on.

I'm still not sure if I should be surprised we're 7th in a good way or bad way.
