If we don't pick up the three points on Saturday then we've been mugged off, and the manager looks like a mug. He has created a rod for his own back.

I completely want to support what he's doing but yesterday was totally unacceptable.

Then there was absolutely no need to be calling for signings in the summer Tim, if you don't support rotation.

Bernard and Tosun both deserved to play on merit. Lookman deserved to play because, frankly, if we've kept him from a move with no intention of playing him, then we're idiots.

Stek, Schneiderlin, Dowell. I understand your frustration. I do think Gana was being protected and I understand that, but it would have been nice to see him play. Same with Gylfi.

Baines/Digne - nothing wrong with that on paper. Digne has been good but Baines needed to be kept sharp. He may not play again until Christmas, but if Digne gets an injury he'll be straight back in.

The issue isn't the rotation. The issue is every player on that pitch - new or not - did not do their jobs as well as they should have done. Teams rotate all the time and get wins. Why can't we?

We can't because we have no depth whatsoever. A decent 13 or 14 players, then a load who rubbish who need booted out.

Modern game in a nutshell, there was a time the League Cup was seen as a priority on the same level as the FA Cup, now both competitions get treated like a joke by big teams unless it absolutely matters (I.E. to save face for a season) because the money is in league or European football
 
Underestimate the opposition and competition= Check.
Danny Ing's scores= Check.
Flunk penalty shoot-out= Check.
Same old pathetic Everton= Check.
Another season without any silverware=Check.

Not to worry though, as our new chief exec is 'preparing for the Champions League'.

I think Koeman and Martinez assembled a lot of utter rubbish and we're paying the price for it.

There is a lot of misplaced faith in our youth players too and it's hype with no basis. We overrate our young players and favour them over others for geographical reasons. It wouldn't happen at any of the top teams.

This is a 2-3 year job to get our squad ready to be able to rotate. Our depth is appalling so it was very wrong to give them game time in one of our 2 realistic chances of a trophy. I don't blame silva for the rubbish he has. That is the fault of martinez Walsh & Koeman. But I do blame him for using them and prioritising a game on Saturday which will probably have no other relevance other than maybe getting us 8th instead of 9th. Completely pointless in the grand scheme of things.

How do you mean? As in over other players in our team or over other players in the league?

Ok, here's another side of things

I get we have a squad. But 7 in one go?

Lets just have a think about this

1. Seven players are supposed to go into a team and Gel on that one game straight away. 2 changes yes, but 7 no way
2. Some players haven't had minutes so are also expected to be at peak speed, fitness and ability - doesn't happen
3. Maybe more importantly, some players already know they aren't playing Saturday anyway so where is the motivation apart from going through the motions.
Dowell last night has a wonderful game, creates loads, scores a goal. Does he start ahead of GS Saturday - no. fact. So basically the aim of these ties is to give players minutes rather than to win the game

Is that fair on us?

Our academy players get far more chances than at other clubs and we are too sentimental. Like a 3 year deal for Pennington. A start last night for Dowell. Persisting with Kenny rather than signing a new right back to challenge Kenny. Not signing any midfielder permanently when Davies really needs upgraded. Keeping Baines as first choice for two years too long etc.

I could go on, but we overrate our young players, stand by our experienced pros who are from the area, even to the point they look a shadow of what they once were, big the kids up beyond belief and then keep expecting them to magically get better even when it's clear they aren't cut out for this level.
