I wonder if our players are just going through a 'when is he getting fired' mode. They play good and hard for a new gaffer then he's fired
after his instructions/substituions/rotation/practices become confusing/annoying/lackluckster and they feel the manager has checked
out so they check out, wait for the new one, play to impress, dip in form, managers thinks 'these guys will get me fired' players
think 'this guy will cost me international spots and they begin to manage and play with a wary eye on each other and not the opponent?
