Last season against utd at home he showed that when we practice game management against a team we play well. But when we go out and play our game naturally we get found out, for spurs they play narrow so let's use the width and play two wingers and let besic snide up dier and Ali. We have to have specific game management because they are a very good side
I agree with everything you have said. But don't expect us to have 'specific game management' as Martinez has proved on countless occasions with this team, that we don't possess that capability.

I've developed my own chant to help me cope with these rotten results and sadly most apply to today's match.

When victory turns into defeat.
Everton that! Everton that!

We're due a pen, the ref just grins.
Everton that! Everton that!

From certain win, to drawn again.
Everton that! Everton that!

I blame me mar.
I blame me dar.
I'm sorry that I kicked the cat!
Everton that! Everton that! Everton that!
This should be in the poetry thread, weeping here.

But we did it this season against Chelsea and Southampton. We also managed it at west brom. That's what's so so annoying!! That Bournemouth equaliser at the end has killed us and we looked to be getting over it today but that was a gut punch

The only way to prove it was not a pen would be to appeal Stones' card. Even over on the Stoke forum, they're saying it was a massive stroke of luck.

Then again, you make your own luck, and instead of taking the impetus and getting a fourth, we sat back and that happens. We'll finish mid-table this year for that reason, and down to RM's stubborness and in-ability to defend.

I don't want him out, but I would hope he would finally wake up. Unfortunately he doesn't appear to be doing so.
I was one of his biggest proponents when we were replacing Moyes and after the first season I felt we really could push on and contend for a title in a decades time or so but now I fear unless he drops Howard he is in real danger of massively underperforming for another season. It's not all Howard's fault or even mostly his fault but he is not up to our current level or even close. Obviously the complexion of the season could change if we push past City in the cup and string together some wins in the league but there are too many excuses being put forward for him. I still want him here and want us to succeed under him specifically as I think in almost every way he is what we need and one of the best we can attract/afford but if new investment doesn't come in I'm afraid an underachieving season will lead to frustration from our young future stars and a forced player power driven dismantling of what could be an amazing team.

The persistence with the gung ho system after the third goal was complete arrogance. Martinez can talk all he wants about footballing arrogance but I'd much prefer humble hard graft.

Hard to know where we go from here. The players must be shot. We just have no confidence in seeing any game out.

Seems to me he is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't as far as some people are concerned.

For years we complained about Moyes "nicking a goal" then shutting up shop with a "what we have we hold" policy.

We saw it backfire on many occasions when teams equalised late against us as we sat back protecting a lead...away to Reading in his last season springs to mind....home and away to Norwich that same season.

Most spectacularly we saw it at Wembley against the RS in the 2012 semi final......when we had them on the ropes at half time but Moyes surrendered the wide open spaces of Wembley for them to attack us when he decided to close the game down and Suarez ran us ragged.

And yet Moyes is being lauded on here as some sort of guru in the art of closing out games.

Nowt wrong with charging to the sound of the bugles when we are on the front foot.

Nowt wrong at all.

And if the players "have no confidence" in seeing a game out then happen they should look at themselves and give their heads a wobble.

(They have no such problems anyway......they kicked on against Chelsea and Saints among others with great success)

Yes, let's just dismiss the actions of that nice Mr. Clattenburg as being "irrelevant"
Clattenburg didn't cost us points in the Leicester match or the Bournemouth match. Thats down to defending. We are.. (I mean, can anyone stress this enough?) AWFUL at defending. Its not even like they dont make it a priority, its like they absolutely neglect it in training.

But he cost us a point today.

At least.
