For what it's worth i just caught the extended highlights on the OS.

After reading all the comments previously I thought we were going to be pretty poor, but finishing aside I thought we looked ok. On another day we could easily have won 1-0, 2-0 even.

He has got you there, Dave.

We have a 7th place average over recent years. Maybe my standards are unusually high, but I class that as mid-table. It's certainly not top echelon, that's for sure. It's a nothing, mediocre position that we can only expect to get...either under Moyes or Martinez, given who owns this club.

Its around 1m a league place.

We cant afford to finish below 7/8th.

I disagree with this proposition. If that phony **** Kenwright wants to protect his and his fellow carpet bagger's nest egg, they'll find the cash somehow to make up any placement losses. Doesn't make sense they'd leave it to free fall and lose value. Moyes did them a huge favour in postponing that day they have to dig deep for so long by getting cash in via league placement. Ergo, if it comes to it and we do drop a few places then the cash will have to be found...or they risk losing more ground the following year.

And you know how the cash will be found Dave.

Dave I'm in agreement with you that dropping a few league places this year is okay as long as there are signs of the dominoes falling into place and helping us become a stronger team in the long run. However as for this 10th vs 6th debate, there is a difference in the respect that most seasons 6th gets you European football. And that plus a trophy should be our minimum goals every season.

We have cash coming in...they just channel it into bogus 'costs'. That'd have to be broken for at least a season in the event we slip down the pecking order. If we lose 2-4M then it'll be found - it cant be avoided. I know if I as in their position I'd see it as a sensible move to avoid further devaluation of 'the asset'.

That' be a difference in terms of status and exposure, yeah. But I was originally debating the point with paul on the level of retention/attraction of players. As we've seen in recent years, whether we've been in or out of Europe we still lose players/attract players of quality.

There's a reason Bill has looked suicidal since Moyes left, Dave. I think this is it. The media will back Blue Bill through any decline and will keep the majority of fans at bay for so long, but I think now Moyes has gone the clock has started ticking on him again.

To me, his disclosure of Martinez' CL promise comes across as a shameless attempt to shift any potential blame to the manager's door. We can't cope with losing that much money and we will sell players to replace it. We can all but kiss goodbye to Lescott and Rodwell style fees if we're languishing down there as well.

I couldn't understand Billy Liar saying that in that press conference. For me BK knows that the name of the game at Everton for any manager is to do exactly what Moyes did: keep it respectable with good top half finishes that pacify fans' frustrations to an extent and allow him and his fellow gangsters to keep their hands out of their pockets. To saddle Martinez with any more expectation was just, IMO, BK being BK when 'lights, camera, action' is called out. I dont think he seriously expects it and wont be arsed if it isn't reached as long as fans aren't giving him grief.

As for loss of cash/league placings: only if it's a couple of seasons out of the top 6/7 will it have an effect on policy (be it fees charged other clubs for our players or BK's attitude to the manager), and that's not what I'm saying will be accepted. I'm saying a season to bed in with a bare top half finish (9th/10th place) wont signal anything significant.
