'sophistry' has , in most recent generations, assumed synonym toward deception... but its etymology is less crepuscular...something more refulgently engaging. I fully appreciate my posting 'style', herein this togger forum, might rub some up the wrong way...but as @ForeverBlue92 always hints toward in the 'Fit Birds' thread, it's very much a case of 'different strokes for different folks'.You sophists are all the same! lol
I would have played Davies ahead of either Siggy or Gomes against City. Not just for his legs, he was our best midfielder immediately before his injury.I remember De Jong, Barry, Yaya Toure as a midfield three but wouldn't call it "holding". After time it turned out to be bring De Jong on as a substitute and push Yaya Toure forward.
Gomes, Allan, Sigurdsson have zero legs which I was really surprised to see Davies left out. Surely when Doucoure is out Davies has to start?
Yes he looked calm, which was good to se, although no crowd there it was still a massive occasion for him, my MOTM was Ben Godfrey but I don’t begrudge Virginia the many votes he got.A disappointing but not an unexpected outcome really. In one respect I'm happy that we made a fist of it this evening, but on the other hand I am disappointed that this type of performance from us wasn't there when we played the likes of Burnley and Fulham etc. Anyway, it looks like we'll just have to win a trophy next season.
Although his punching needs some working on, I thought that Joao Virginia did well and made a few decent saves. The lad gave a good account of himself and never let us down; he gets my MotM.
Really hard to figure Everton out this season you just don't know what you are going to get from one week to the next. Home defeats to the likes of Burnley and Fulham ect shouldn't be happening. They looked so good at the start of the season as they were able to get Calvert Lewin into goal scoring positions and now it seems th last few months he is dropping deeper and deeper to get on the ball.I would have played Davies ahead of either Siggy or Gomes against City. Not just for his legs, he was our best midfielder immediately before his injury.
Let's face it, our season has been stop and start for around half our players since the Goodison derby. It's a miracle we still have our sights on Europe really
They are just at the moment, maybe Bayern will stand toe to toe with toe. What I am advocating is that we don't accept that City are some unbeatable goliath.
Agree with your comments on James. Just doesn't look like he wants to be here.Carlo's tactics to contain City and try for a counter attack goal were nothing new in matches like this and worked quite well except for the Everton goal which
didn't come.
I wonder, though, whether James would've made the difference. Yes, he's a luxury player, but I don't mind that. He's said that he likes it here and I hope we can get him playing more often in future.
We didn't, thought they scored a very fortunate, very late goal, followed by another even later goal. We went toe to toe with them for 84 minutes unlike Liverpool fc....What I am advocating is that we don't accept that City are some unbeatable goliath.
This, he's peaked or gone off the boilEvery city player has gone up a notch except Stirling they are on another level.
