Everton Youth Teams Thread

Not like you to be so negative mate.

He did well at league 1 and I think was the division young player of the year (or maybe just nominated not sure). He's moved up a division and is probably getting used to the set up etc, same as we're doing with our new lads.

We all know it's going to be hard for the lad but I don't think he's 21 yet.

dont think it was that negative, at this minute in time i think the best level he could get to is an adam forshaw type level. obviously thats still very good but not what was hoped for 5 yrs ago.
hope i'm wrong as i posted later

It looks like the Everton u23s v swansea 23s game that was due to be at southport monday night,is now a midday kick off saturday and is now at GOODISON PARK,and the game will NOW NOT be live on swansea's website, as it was for the monday night, due for the simple reason that swansea's 1st team are playing and they have the build up

Everton u18s 2nd at the minure are due to play middlesbrough saturday 12.30pm ko at finch farm

Well , as I said mate he’s too good a midfielder to play at right back , he’s versatile enough to play RB , but we need a regular Right back. We bought him with the intent of playing him in midfield and him and Adeniran have a good chance of building on the understanding they had when played together last season. With Williams going on loan Markelo/Adeniran offers our best regular midfield pairing @ 23s , depending on what plans are being made for Beni.

I see, so more about him and Adeniran being a good potential pairing...

I read your last post as saying hes too good to play right back so should be further forward...

From this thread i learned that Adeniran is box to box and quite powerful....whats Markelo like?

U18 s playing too v Middlesbrough, presumably same time at USM Finch Farm what a decent, streamed, double header that would have made at Goodison. Our public relations attempts for the u18/U23s is pathetic, from never knowing who’s injured , returning to fitness right through to streaming matches. Pretty pathetic for a PL club with a Tier 1 Academy.

Disagree mate.

At 16/17, a young players career can still go in any direction, unless you're absolutely standout at that age like Rooney was. I once played amateur football in the Zingari league alongside somebody who captained England as a 16yo.

I actually think that the fact he performed so well in League 1 as a 20yo, and has since moved to the championship, shows he's heading in the right direction. I reckon the odds of him making it as a premiership standard player (which is what we are discussing after all) is probably better now than it was as a 16yo rookie.

already a few posts up mate, finch farm 12.30,everton and saying stuff about the youth team are a disaster, thought with this new everton youth twitter page, that they would have latest scores/updates/goals/injurys, whatever, half the time if they say,its days after the game has been played etc,you would not even know.you would think even though its early and both unbeaten that they might give a mention about it--depending on results tonight in the u18s and u23s,both our u18s and u23s could both be top tomorrow with a win

So Everton u18s playing middlesbrough at finch farm at 12.30 & Everton u23s playing swansea u23s at Goodison park at midday can both go top tomorrow with big wins [u18s need a 6 goal win due to a big man utd win friday night] & [u23s need a 3 goal win],otherwise any win puts us 2nd in both

...footy is as much about attitude and desire as it is about ability. If you have both in abundance you have what it takes but it can be a rizzla paper between those who come through and those who fall away.

Very, very true Eggs, that's why I worry about players like Dowell, he's got all the skill in the world but the desire to play for ninety minutes doesn't seem to register with him, when he has the ball he makes you sit up and take notice, but too often he drifts out of the game for long spells, without the attitude, desire and application Eggs talks about Dowell and players like him will struggle to make the grade at a top club.
