Cook has said they may be looking to buyHopefully they'll use Callum Connolly there if they are short. At the minute he isn't getting much time in midfield so it may cone into the thinking rather than buy someone.

I hope Anthony Gordon is used in the FA youth cup, starting on Saturday at Goodison versus Sunderland. We need to play our best players in this competition, a long time since we made our mark in this cup.Maybe he's meant to be.
Wouldn't be surprised if he's playing "winning football" to get his profile up for when he leaves. Personally I don't think that's doing much for the development of the players. Young Gordon especially seems to be in limbo. Not part of the U18 set up now and getting hardly any game time with the U23s. No wonder the vultures are circling.

...surely we will. I agree, it’s about time we had a run in this prestigious competition. It’s always a good indicator if you have a good player or two, and it will be good if Gordon is central to this seasons effort. I presume the likes of Simms and John are eligible.
goals via that
I haven’t seen a match report , pictures are not great, but it looked to me that Bobby Carroll was the provider for all four goals. Some great goals yet again. They system, the performances and the goals just seem to be a lot better at U18 level compared to U23.
Does anyone else think, bar the odd few players, Brands may have looked at the U23 as a bit of a bung squad and is concentrating the clubs efforts more on U18's and below? Just seems a bit of a large disconnect between first team, >U18's and then what the U23's are doing.
The age of most of the U23's should really be knocking on the first team so maybe Brands is just letting them drift away till the Summer for an overhaul.

I think Brands has concentrated on the first team and so far hasn’t had an impact at u18 level, he will do, but it’s Paul Tait and his team who deserve the credit for the u18 performance. U23 s you’d believe that Brands and Silva impact on who plays e.g. Kenny and Dowell. Youre right that many of the U23s will , or should be, gone in the summer , but raising the age to 23 seems to have meant we’ve given extra years to some who won’t make it with us , yet could have a future elsewhere like Charsley , Browning and Broadhead.
In some ways the Academy signing ban plays to Brands strengths , he can help to plug the gaps at U23s level with signings who are 18 plus, and help plug any gaps at u18 by making signings from abroad. More exciting times ahead hopefully .
ellis simms to start the derby next sunday
all those in favour say aye
aye
Bit drastic that last bit mate! The step up from u18 to 23 is quite a big one, players recently like Mampala, Kiersey and Bramall did enough at u18 to get a contract but haven’t made any impact at u23, we’ll need experienced u23s like Feeney, Gibson, Adeniran, Markelo , Bowler , Evans to help them settle. I can see your point though, keeping the bulk of this u18 squad together , letting them develop and show if they’ve got what it takes irrespective of initial results would be a very positive move.Yes, don’t think I worded my point well, of course all the credit goes to Tait but ultimately the academy will have a way of playing which flows down from Brands. The U18’s play a style befitting the first team whereas the U23’s certainly don’t. Wouldn’t shock me if almost the entire U23’s squad from next Summer, or even January, will be the U18’s.

It’s interesting when you look back , numerically we’re not very good at converting our Scholars into U23s . 2015 we took on 14 Scholars , 6 were given contracts, only 3 have been regular U23s starters, Feeney, Beni , Evans. 2016 again 14 Scholars taken on and 6 given contracts with only 3 I would consider regular U23s starters ( injuries apart) Hilton, Hornby and Denny. 2017 we took on 12 , so far only Gordon and Kyle John has made an impact at U23s . This year we took on 11, we’ll hopefully see more impact from all u18 next year. I m trying to highlight that not many of our u18 Scholars are coming through at U23s in recent years.Haha yeh but hear me out; I’m not being too drastic if we look into it a bit more. I of course was being a bit flippant saying the whole U23 squad but I’d say a very large chunk won’t be seen to have a future here so won’t have time/money invested in them further than we should.
Brands is used to working with an U21 and U19 group at PSV so arguably from next Summer our current U18’s would be of a similar age to the U21 PSV squad. I hope we are prioritising our current U18’s before turning them next year into our U23’s with current players such as Bowler, Gibson, Adeniran etc. if they’re not being lined up to go out on loan.
It can’t just be me that finds it a little odd how different the U23’s play compared to the U18’s and the first team. I know they’re different coached but Brands’ academy strategety hopefully is, or should be, aimed at all ages playing the same style of football.
There aren’t many in our U23 squad I wouldn’t sell on now.
