Everton Youth Teams Thread

It will be interesting to see if the move to Finch Farm and the upgrade in facilities made a big difference to our academy. There are a lot of promising players starting to come through that have been at Finch Farm from a young age, and a lot of them are local lads we've brought through our system ourselves.

In the next few years we'll start seeing if they can move into the first team, and if they're the start of a higher quality of academy player or if they're just a one off.

This chap made an interesting point.

@johnmerro1 @ToffeeTV1 Johns right, this has been executed perfectly with Liverpool ignoring youth through the Benitez/Houllier era.

I know its just lids talking on twitter, but it pricked my interest, so thought I would share.

Not at the 'top' level though...only a few times since the 80's and usually mostly average players around them.

The one i most had hope for was around 94-96 with the young players coming through and some great players around them. This sank pretty quickly.

Sad what happened to ball especially.

We have always had a local core as well.

Mostly because we haven't been at the top I'd say Zat, even now I'd say we have quite a few players that are local lads in the first team.

Not sure what your point is Zat.

Chelsea have just won the league by not fielding a single player from the youth team.

People want success without selling their souls.

Man City are ploughing millions into their youth system, building complexes etc, but none of their youth players will ever realistically get a chance in their first team unless the Sheik suddenly closes his wallet and forces it. That isn't going to happen though.

Its great to see a lot of these young lads signing short term contracts as it gives them a taste of whats to come if they can combine talent and determination to succeed at a high level.

Unfortunately from a fans point of view well from my view anyway, im only 22 myself but i think ive already seen the best youngster this club will have produced for a long time and that was Rooney. I was only 10/11 years old when he was breaking into the team but he was a freak of nature at 16 years old and the raw ability he had was incredible, it wasn't until he went to Utd that his play style completely changed, i feel sorry for the younger fans who don't remember his time with us because some of the things he could do at that age were incredible.

Conor Hunt has gone on loan for a month to Colwyn Bay in the Northern Premier League, the article says we've done a deal with them that could see more of our under 21's go there, they'll probably be very short term deals for the younger lads, can't see us sending them there for long, if their gonna make it they need to be playing at a higher level than that.
