Everton Youth Teams Thread

A lot of truth in what you say, especially about it being a conscious choice by the coaches to rate other players better, well I think injuries had some say in that, Liam had quite a few of those, speaking for myself I never saw a better player, coming through, than Liam, a player who understood the game, every aspect of it, a lad who hated losing, got upset with his team mates mistakes, even more upset with himself when he made a rick, I like Tom Davies and hope he keeps improving but I honestly think if Liam had stayed fit and got a game in the first team he would still be there, all he needed, like every player needs, was that little bit of luck.I think if fortune gives him a break he will be back where he deserves to be, in the premier league.
Not sure where this being rated lower than Davies thing comes from. Opposite to the case. The only problem the U23 coaches had with him was whether he was still likely to be on the pitch at the end of the 90 minutes.

Looking at the contract situation we have 9 u23s Foulds, Denny, Markelo, Ouzounidis, Mampala, Joe Anderson, Adedoyin, Feeney and Phillips and 4 u18s Barrett, Hosie, Jonathan Anderson and Quirk with contracts that expire at the end of the season. Normally I would say most would get released but I wonder if like they did with Charsley they will maybe give them short term contracts to help them until they find another club. It would be good from a PR and compassionate point of view.

We re a business not a charity ;-) If they want to stay and use training facilities why not but why give them wages? Also with current health situation, why keep them around to risk increased chances of virus ?

The latter. He goes after every free ball with the sole intent of ending up in possession, often ending up in confrontations and on the bad side of the officials. A bit like Bobby Collins in that regard.
I think the Collins comparison is quite apt.
I did think he was the most promising and exciting of that particular cohort of players ,he exhibited the skill allied with the determination needed to emerge victorious from games.
I heard it said at the time that he didn’t get on particularly well with Unsworth. Perhaps his combative nature worked against him off the pitch as well as occasionally on it.
I suspect he just needed time to mature a little and it’s a shame it couldn’t be with us.
I still believe he has the ability to succeed and become a top player and we will rue the day we allowed him to leave.
We shall see.

...it’s not always a case of ‘allowing a player to leave’, it is quite possible that a player wants to leave.

Totally agree and sometimes the opportunity for the player at a club never arises through no fault of anyone’s and it is then the more bold and determined player who strikes out out on their own, which may have been the main factor here.
However I still feel that other players opportunities were advanced far more aggressively at the time.
Sometimes your face just doesn’t fit.

Must be highly rated for Carlo and marcel to have made a video....certainly have never seen that b4 for an academy player. He’s Only 8 apparently
It sounded like Carlo’s message of “ Heh boys..” was generic to welcome a new batch to the Academy. Maybe Brands just being nice and welcoming, as you say appears to be only 8 so quite a while to wait yet

I think it was the first season we won the under 24’s when Walsh was fantastic and easily our player of the season.
I remember Joe Williams coming back towards the end of the season and after a few games, Unsworth praising him and saying he was ready for the first team.

Definitely seemed like he had his favourites.

Sounds that way to me, face not fitting, he’s a very good player and seems like he was cocky with it!!!

I think at the time Davies made his debut, both Ledson & Walsh were out on loan.
Davies got his foot in the door, wheras so ive heard, loan players at that time were rarely even checked on!
