If it was a case they were playing against Full Time players then I’d agree, but these are lads that rock up of a weekend after a midweek session and play. It’s absolutely baffling why we even bothered. If this level of team is considered a challenge or even one that provides a level of intensity our players should be aiming for then it’s a real worry.
Devils advocate here mate, but this sort of friendly has always been used for sides reserves and young lads. You stick them in with older semi pro's, who will essentially boot them around and get an idea of which ones have the heart for it.
There are a couple of issues with it. Once upon a time it woud have just been behind closed doors with nobody mentioning it. Secondly we have lads in the 23's who we should ahve moved on some time ago (Bowler, Broadhead etc) who has all done well in League 1/Championship. Broadhead scored 5, and seemed to dribble most in. He's 22. I don't think the reserves are really for lads like Broadhead. We seem to have a manager who's held onto lads like him, to make himself look better.
As for the reporting, that just looks like a lads relative saying what they did. I mean it's somewhat ridiculous reporting, but it seems a sector wide problem.
It's a good win, but at 22, Broadhead should be taking the mickey out of Runcorn, and so he has.
It's funny, I played for a County league team, and every year we'd play the Semi-pro teams under 18's (the equivalent of Runcorn) and they'd just take the mickey out of us too. You'd have 20 minutes of trying to kick them, get exhausted and watch them score for fun. It was a strangely enjoyable experience!
