Everton Youth Teams Thread

Acting like a complete muppet for noting that our youth development system is complete pony? Yeah alright
Naw, you had a ‘mare with the things you got wrong and I thought you were treated quite gently by the regulars on here. And for what it’s worth we’ve now got the best group of 19-16 year olds we’ve had for years.

I’ll be sure to say my prayers extra hard that I didn’t get a roasting from lads that think playing part time teams is in any way shape or form a worthwhile endeavour for players that should be striving to make the step up to the sharp end of the elite level.

I’ll also share a word of caution to others that work in the development of elite athletes that their bafflement over the fact we essentially played one of the world’s most pointless games, especially from the perspective of massively sub-optimal physical and tech/tac demands, means they know jackshit, because some lads on a forum say...

We might have the worlds best set of 16-19 year olds, but this clubs inability to actually push lads on to become Senior squad lynchpins totally negates that. The club is very, very bad at this. In the past 10 years we’ve had Tom Davies as the highlight of our system. Sorry if I’m not overly excited about it and think that game was essentially the perfect summation of an underperforming, badly designed and run youth system.

no one can take you seriously when you've never even heard of ross barkley.
now if you'd kindly clear off to another thread to spout nonsense that would be great.

You mean the Ross Barkley that debuted just under 10 years ago, never lived up to his hype, fizzled out, clearly had a fractured relationship with the club and we sold for next to nothing?

That Ross Barkley?

Again, hardly a ringing endorsement for a club. If you could take your happy clapping somewhere else that would be great

I don’t recall saying that at all. I said that the youth setup has produced just Tom Davies in the past 10 years as someone who has stepped up from the youth setup to the Senior team and been a consistent player within it. You could argue Barkley fits the same criteria at the very limits. It’s still just two players in a 10 year period. Kenny might merit inclusion if we keep hold of him and he has a decent season, same with Gordon, but to suggest that it’s all hunky dory in a 12 month period where in all but name the RS u23s humbled us in the Cup and we pretend that playing part time players is worthwhile just seems very, very odd.

no premier league team produces players for their 1st team with any consistency, they're all terrible at it and most would rather spend 20m on a journeyman foreign player than give a youth team player a proper chance.
the constant changing of manager over the last 10 years has been to the detriment of the 1st team and the youth set up.
and you're still banging on about the last minute replacement of wigan by a semi pro team, that's what is very, very odd.

I mean you’re entirely wrong, but don’t let that stop you. https://www.squawka.com/en/every-premier-league-club-ranked-use-academy-players/

Well that shows Chelsea and man utd used a good few academy players last season and everyone else rubbish, not sure what that proves about last 10 years but you seem to like waffling crap so don't let that stop you.
Everyone else Rubbish. Yes, obviously. 14 teams ahead of us but everyone else is rubbish. Jesus Christ.

I’m not sure what it has to do with us not producing players for years either, but you threw out a random stat that everyone else was crap at it, which they aren’t, to try and defend that.

I mean, don’t tell other people they are spouting random crap when you can’t even follow your own arguments pal.

You're clearly very slow, premier league teams are very poor at producing their own players, showing me a list of last seasons academy minutes doesn't change that just cos Chelsea have finally started giving some of them a chance after spending multi millions for years and years.

My days, they really aren’t. We’d love to kid ourselves that other clubs are crap at it to justify the crap we’ve had, but no. Please don’t call me slow pal because you can’t even keep up with your own arguments. Go and watch your Best of Ross Barkley DVD.

We were third on that same list 17/18 and we played part time opposition that pre-season too
The season 17/18 where over half the total of those minutes was taken up by an aging Wayne Rooney on a farewell tour. A load more taken by Kenny having to cover for Coleman during his leg break, but then was dropped rapidly. The 17/18 season where we went from Koeman to Unsworth to Allardyce and had a quick flirt with relegation. Perhaps not the best argument for playing part time teams eh?

Come on then, name all these superstars premier league clubs have been producing in their droves recently.....
