Everton Youth Teams Thread

Spurs were miles better; they're decent at academy level. The ref had a bit of a mare on a couple of goals but Spurs destroyed them. Young lad up front, Dane Scarlett (16), looked really good.

Yes they are. Similar to us really, strong but not quite City/Chelsea level. Could be a strong year for Spurs, as we seem to have at under 16/17 level.

Ive also found the 10mins highlights of the u18s derby from last week if any wanted them lol, i watched it last week but may be the 1st time some of you seen the goals etc-you may have to click the pic to make it start

Interesting those highlights. I mean aside from thecringe of the commetators treating it as Liverpools cup final some general points.

As has been commented on, it looks like we were good value for at least a point. We could easily have had 2 more penalties, and Liverpool could have had a lad sent off. We've hit the underside of the bar and missed 2 or 3 other good chances too. They have missed a couple of chances too, but overall we strung some nice moves together.

Butterfield in the number 8 looked very good. Some good passes and a great tackle in the middle of the park. Also looked a lot bigger than our and particularly their players including Mbeto (who is also a good player for them). Looks about 5 ft 11, so hopefully some growing to come, but he impressed me.

The young wing back Roman did well for the penalty but looks very small.

Does anyone know who are number 17 was as it was not Jagne. I think it was young Jenson Metcalfe who is one to watch out for.

Assistant manager Keith Southern hailed match-winner Charlie Whitaker’s impressive all-round performance after the talented forward scored the only goal in Everton Under-18s’ 1-0 victory at Sunderland on Saturday.

Whitaker slotted home from inside the penalty box after a flowing team move to put Everton in front on 12 minutes.

And while the Toffees created numerous chances to extend their advantage, his strike was to prove decisive at the Academy of Light.

The victory lifts Everton up to sixth in the U18 Premier League (North) table. The young Blues return to action next Saturday when Middlesbrough visit USM Finch Farm.

“It was a tough game and it was scrappy at times,” Southern told evertonfc.com.

“We scored an early goal through Charlie, who tucked his finish away really nicely. He had a really good game. He was excellent throughout.

“On another day, with the opportunities we missed, we could have scored three or four.

"And when you don’t take those chances to give yourselves more of a cushion, you’re always under pressure towards the end of the game.

“Credit to the players, we seen out those moments really well.

“We had to show different qualities and a real professionalism to see the game out. We got the job done and the lads deserved the win.

“It was a long journey up to Sunderland in the morning before the match and we played on a heavy pitch, so it’s a very good three points.”
Charlie Whitaker has always impressed me in the bits I’ve seen of him. He’s scored about 5 or6 goals I think , certainly not far off Cannon’s tally if you take away the pens . I think he got some U23s mins the other week , so it’ll be interesting to see if he can get more game time and emerge from a vary competitive group of midfielders we have at u18.

I'm guessing Liam Higgins is injured as he was playing right back earlier in the season and now he's nowhere to be seen. Right Back is an available slot in the u23s next season. I was kind of hoping he could be the next player to try. I know he's a winger by trade but modern full backs almost play as wingers these days.

I think the last time Higgins played was early December when he was subbed at half time for Price, which is suggestive of an injury. He was on the bench for the first PL2 match but never got on, thereafter Pennington and John played RB. Its always hard to tell if he was tried at RB in training and deemed not good enough yet, was blocked initially by older players or was just unlucky to be injured after Pennington went on loan and John was injured.

He's one of 6 2nd year scholars not on a contract yet. Him and Tom Cannon are the only ones I would consider offering a contact to. Yeah definitely sounds like an injury if that was his last involvement. Pennington has certainly slowed down a few careers at least from next season the only unwanted player in the u23s will be Baningime.
