Cant sign until the summer, but a lot of the rumours have died down.
Thanks for your reply, Thierry is now listed as the youngest player ever to play for Everton’s first team, however the youngest player ever to turn out for the Blues was Andy Penman, a young Scottish lad who came down to Everton at fifteen, only stayed for a year before getting homesick and returning home. Andy played for Everton versus Liverpool in a either a Liverpool senior cup game or the second leg of the Floodlight Cup, two games played at Goodison and Anfield to celebrate the opening of Floodlights at both grounds. Andy played in the game at Anfield, it was a first team game with over 40,000 attending the game. If you google Andy’s appearance for Everton it is referred to as Andy played in a reserve team game versus Liverpool, the game I was referring to was most definitely played by the two strong first team sides.

Going to ask the awkward question: Onyango. Against Man Utd U23 he really seemed to be given the run around in the few snippets I saw. Didn't seem particularly mobile. Is there a concern there or have I just not seen enough of the lad to let first impressions bother me?

Would it be fair to say that at present Onyango, Small and Dobbin are the three that could be regarded as having the best chance of playing first team football for Everton... if normal career progression occurs ?

Reece Welch and Isaac Price are also first year scholars in the u23 mix. They both play in positions with plenty of competition so they must be highly thought of.

I’m not sure from your post how much of the match you saw, but my memories are different. Against a talented and busy United team I thought Onyango and Isaac Price more than held their own in midfield for two , then, 17 year olds. Onyango when asked to , is very much a box to box midfielder with a long stride and deceptive pace. For one of his recent goals he ran about 60 yards to poke the ball into the net inside the opposite penalty area. It’s all comparative of course, he's showing decent mobility but it’s U23s level , equally he’s only 18 so plenty of time to develop further. He’s still to get any PL minutes, so you’d suspect that Carlo doesn’t see him as the person to lead us out of the wilderness, give cover for Allan or Doucoure etc...... yet. He’s 18 and doing fine.

He is very much like Doucoure just needs time to develop. I agree he is definitely on the right trajectory just needs time.

Ya as said was a snippet .. but it was bugging me so thought I would ask.. no thats good to read.. Will just watch his development .. havent taken a position on him yet.. but very hopeful

For me Small is the one who has the best chance. Dobbin has got injured at the wrong moment, but worth noting that Gordon only really got any action with the first team when he was around 15 months older thn Dobbin now. How he reacts to the injury will be important. Probably needs to make an impression this pre-season.

I do think in that yer group below, there are other potential players. Welch and Price in particular look good.

Interesting to see if Tyrer, John and Broadhead on the first team bench tomorrow. Glad to see Astley is back thought he might have picked up an injury.
