Few games I've seen this year so by no means an expert but i think Small, John,Hughes and Cannon are as good as what we have. Really like Small and John going forward, seem like the modern day full backs type.

As for footballing style, we are a bit of a mixture, some lads like to knock it about but the quality of some others means it's often goes nowhere. Fair assessment??

How did Butterfield do? How big is he in comparison to Price? Is his style of player similar or a bit more defensive?
As I joked earlier, it can be hard to tell Butterfield and Price apart on the pitch from a distance, both similar size, 6 footish?, and quite thin. Butterfield wore the 8 and was the more defensive of the two , sticking a leg or a tackle in. It’s always hard to tell as they switch positions of course , but on occasions I’d say he was the defensive base of a diamond, then it’d switch to Butterfield/ Price being the two central mids. I know we encourage the youngsters to play in different roles and not pigeon hole them in one position so it may change next time . Certainly for me Butterfield‘s play was closer to Price’s style than any other players. It was Butterfield‘s first start so he did well and lasted about 65 mins , replaced by Cannon or Hunt , I can’t remember.

For the last 20 mins Isaac Price came into his own, getting on the ball more with his trademark through passes to set things going , we’d changed formation a bit and it suited him more . He played the full game and was still going strong at the end, which is very encouraging, he’s looking more composed and mature the more game time he gets at this level.

A mention for Thierry Small too. I’m more and more thinking he’s not going to be a full back. He obviously has defensive frailties you’d expect of a 16 year old, but when he’s on the ball he just wants to power forward out of midfield , take people on , shoot or pass. It could be argued that’s what you want in a modern full back, I just think with his pace and power he’ll be played further forward. It was his fine run to the line and cut back that created our goal.

Thanks for that mate, a bit disappointed I missed the match. I've just found the stream is still up so will go back and have a watch.

Butterfield was always described to me as more of a sitting midfield player, as you say quite languid in style. From small snippets of the 18's derby he looked a lot bigger than Liverpool players which is always a marker for me.

Price was generally more of a 10 coming through, so interesting he's been moved back, but looks very comfortable on the ball.

As for Small, yes he has great power, and just keeps growing upwards and outwards. Looks like he is going to be an exceptional athlete. You have to factor in, if he was 3 weeks younger he'd have got all this exposure as a schoolboy. Thats some going.

Small sounds a bit like Cancelo at City. Time will tell in his development but it sounds promising either way. I would just like one maybe 2 of these players to not only get to the first team but become a regular. I like how there is much less clutter of players in there and the best 18s are getting game time in the 23s.

Agree to disagree, I think he'll make his premier league debut this season and not cos we're 3 nil up. I can't remember the last time that happened lol
Fair enough, but try the Norwich game, near the end of the season about three years ag, three or four young players were used in that game, maybe one near the end, because overall the result didn’t matter,
