Everton Youth Teams Thread

He was on loan for last 4 months or so of the season. He's 20 now

Fair enough, cheers for sharing your knowledge. Like I said in the first post my knowledge of our youth team is limited but I had picked up on the ammount of times I had seen his name on the scoresheet

In his post-match interview today, Martinez did go out of his way to mention it's a priority to evaluate youngsters before making final decisions on transfers.

Could be nonsense, but it's a nice sentiment.

Surely he Knows the strengths and weaknesses of our youngsters by now, if he doesn't there must be something wrong, I like Martinez but that sounds like he's preparing us for a let down in the transfer market, hope I'm wrong.

I'll have to respectively disagree with your fundamental point.

A significant amount of athletic growth can occur when an individual has time away from the sport. That's when the athlete is able to mentally process everything he or she has learned since the last real break.

It's not only prudent but essential to reevaluate developing players in preseason as they may have grown quite a bit.

The end of last season was end of April start of May, the start of pre-season was the beginning of June, in that short space of time you would've thought if a player was assessed not ready to push on to the first team squad at the end of the season it' more than likely he's not ready to push for a squad place at the start of this season, if he is ready that's some improvement.

Well it could be an essential sentiment in keeping Stones for instance. " Look BK if we sell Stones for £30 mill we'll only have Jags and two youngsters , who are talented but not there yet. We'd have to spend £15 mill on a decent replacement plus about £8mill on a back up. Both new players would take time to get used to my system and with extra wages that's about £25 mill gone. Now the two youngsters may not be quite ready but they know our system and if we keep Stones I reckon at least one of them could step up in a year's time. "

Anyone got the names of these players?

The guy who has fascinated me since I first saw that list is Miko Virtanen , down as a Finnish U16 international . My Google search drew up some pics of him playing for Everton in what looks like a u14 team. Wonder what his story is? Has as been said before , the Club are quite close on keeping details of U16 s private, and it's hard to argue with that, but usually we'll get a bit of a bio at some stage once they're Scholars.
