Everton Youth Teams Thread

Jenson Metcalfe also suffering the curse of our on-loan players :

Jenson Metcalfe has confirmed he is set to be out until 2025.
The midfielder has suffered a foot injury and he has revealed on social media that he won’t be back until the new year.
The 20-year-old is on a season-long loan from Everton and has had regular game-time for the Spireites. He has started the last four league games but missed last Saturday’s match against Accrington Stanley.

There was an interesting article in the athletic recently about Palmer. Apparently he was tiny as a kid and got to his current size quite late. Apparently it was not always certain that City would keep him on which seems outrageous to think of now
It's absolutely mad what goes into the process of academy players. I know of a 12 year old lad here who's parents have been interviewed by a club, have been asked for family history and heights, if the parents are too small then chances are clubs won't take them.

My colleague is under 5 foot. Her son is at a PL academy. She won’t attend his academy training or matches because she’s afraid they’ll kick her son out as soon as they see her. The dad is 6’3 so has to take him. There’s huge amounts of chat from the clubs about height. Everton are far less strict about it than LFC currently are - the latter are obsessed.

….madness the number of foot injuries. Seems a modern day curse & surely reflects boot design and firm pitches.

…..this is nothing new, I posted a month or so ago that scouts would always look at the size of parents in an effort to gauge how big their son might be. I wasn’t sure if it was still a thing or not.

Thing is about ‘clubs not taking them’, I wouldn’t be going out on a limb to get my own son signed-up. It’s as though clubs are doing you a favour when the reality is if they really want a lad they’ll sign him. When I signed for RS they came and got me from school because they knew Everton were after me.

I remember meeting Richard Dunne’s parents at Bellefield when he was an Academy youngster and you’d certainly not want to be in a queue for the roasties in their house :hayee:

Just as well Barca didn’t use the same criteria when they scouted Messi!

….i would chase them. It’s about the kids enjoying their game in the right atmosphere. Everton aren’t chasing Graham because of his size.

The arrogance of clubs annoys me. They are not doing you a favour taking your son, they take them because they see talent. Lads shouldn’t play with fear, they should treat it the same as playing for their Sunday league team. Less than 1% become professionals, encourage them to love the experience for however long it lasts.
