Everton Youth Teams Thread

Hopefully Broadhead will reject the deal. He must know he's never going to be good enough here and the older he gets the harder it will be to get a club. His stock will probably be high in League 1 if he's on a free and that is surely the route he needs to look at. He might get more money staying in the short term but he may end up not getting a club in a couple of years. If we are giving him a contract with the intention of selling on that strategy has never worked.

he would be mad to accept any new deal, he should have been getting game time off the back off his good u23 form instead of some of the 1st team frauds but barely got a sniff.
tell the club to shove it and go find himself a good club that will give the opportunity to play and keep improving.

...i have hopes for Walsh & the last CB I’d compare him with is Keane.

Keane is immobile, faces up to strikers like his boots are nailed to the floor. From what I saw of Welsh in this years Youth Cup, he’s mobile, pacy and has a touch of class. The victories over City & Chelsea were built on a committed defence & Welsh was at the heart of it. He was terrific keeping that opposition at bay.

I hope your comparison with Keane is as way off the mark as I think. Please no. Rio Ferdinand type for me.
Time will tell Eggs but just looking at the player the one I am reminded of is Michael Keane.

However, I know nothing of his potential athletic ability, his personality, is he a leader in the team or in the dressing room?

All that said, if young Welch does go on to have the career that Keane is having then I doubt he would be too upset.

....from what I’ve seen, Broadhead is a more talented footballer than Simms but I‘m not sure if he’s more effective than Simms. Perhaps the club have decided to move Simms on and still think Broadhead has a chance.
I highly doubt its this. Its just the club thinking why let an asset go for free when we can try and make some money out of it. Forgetting the years and years of precedent of us never making money out of players nobody else wants. Simms has a far better youth record and L1 record whilst being 3 years his junior. A 23 year old with only 2 minutes of pro football last season does not suggest he has a chance. He never even made the bench for the final 5 games.

broadhead played wide most of his youth career and only moved up front very recently though, he did well in league 1 too.

....regardless of position, I’m sure any young professional would want the career Keane has had. Multi-millionaire wealth beyond their wildest dreams, England caps. It’s what they all want.

I think it is good to compare youngsters to established professionals, just to gauge the ‘type’ of player they are. Watching Welsh, I just couldn’t say he’s a similar ‘type’ of CB to Keane but that’s just my opinion.

At youth team level he reminded me of VVD. I remember speaking to a Southampton fan on Van Dijk and he said to me he plays like a good 14 year old in a match with 12 year olds. I remember watching him marshall Lukaku a few weeks after and saw exactly what he meant. I got a similar feeling watching Welch at under 18 level, he just looked a couple of years older than the rest.

Some things have been made about that final game of the the season, and it may be that the young lads have been dismissed for the summer, but it would have been nice to see Welch on the bench for the match. It's a shame that didn't happen.

Even this year Simms scored 8 in 12 which is pretty similar record to Broadhead since his move to striker. Simms has probably played his way into a Championship loan next season, Broadhead started off well, tailed off and didn't manage to get a loan this season. Again whilst being 3 years older.
