Everton Youth Teams Thread

What the hell is anyone going to learn from Nathan Broadhead? What experience has he had in football?
He could be the perfect player to learn from, he has worked his way through the academy, he has gone on loan outside of the club and knows what these young players are facing.

Playing football is the easy bit for these lads.
Becoming a professional footballer is so much more than kicking a ball.

But Broadhead isn't a professional footballer. He plays for Everton U23's.

He is a 23 year old who’s essentially not a professional footballer, I don’t know why any 17 year old coming through would want to look up to or learn from that. There’s a reason other team in the league has players in their mid-20s lingering around their under 23s to be mentors.

Do you consider 20-year old never played a minute of senior football Joe Anderson an experienced head to learn from?
Don't know.

I really don't know anything about him or how good or bad he is.

But, they obviously have a reason for offering a contract to him.

These players are with the coaches every day and I don't think decisions are made on their careers on a spin the bottle basis.

We have seen the under 23s go down the route of giving young players a chance this season.

I can only imagine these contracts are part of a bigger plan.

Broadhead regularly training with first team suggests Ancellotti must have had a say in offering him a contract. At 23 seems unlikely they will be thinking of giving him a contract so he can be used to add quality to the under 23s and it wouldn't make sense to sign him up and then loan him out again. So it seems the conclusion to be reached is he must be considered to be part of first team squad. Really pleased for him.

no chance, as stated earlier if he didnt get 1st team chances this season he is never getting any.

I can see some logic with Joe Anderson. He’s not going to make it in our first team , but he’s a decent U23s left sided centre back/ full back. Of our left sided CBs I would imagine Branthwaite will be out on loan or training with the first team , Eli Campbell at 16 is talented but they may want to give him more time at u18. Small will likely be U23s left back , but we won’t know until he signs a pro contract. Anderson could provide cover. I read the Echo statement and laughed . So Branthwaite who’s a much better player can’t get into a Championship side yet Anderson has a host of Championship clubs queuing up to offer him a first team place. Yeah , right.

Broadhead‘s offer baffles me in that we refused to give him first team minutes but now want him to stay. He’s clearly talented in an U23s / Championship way and will have caught the eye of many scouts with his U23s goals. If I was him I’d use our offer to extract the best terms from a Championship club and say bye bye Goodison.

No doubting broadhead has done well this season but next season surely kouyate, cannon,Dobbin, and Garcia will be the front options

I agree with all of this. With Astley probably going out on loan and Ouzounidis not getting a new contract this will leave us with Welch, Kristiensen and Hagan. None of which have much experience. He will also provide cover for Small at LB. Sometimes you keep a player just as balance and it would only be a one year contract.
