Everton Youth Teams Thread

I agree with all of this. With Astley probably going out on loan and Ouzounidis not getting a new contract this will leave us with Welch, Kristiensen and Hagan. None of which have much experience. He will also provide cover for Small at LB. Sometimes you keep a player just as balance and it would only be a one year contract.

i can see why we made the offer from out point of view but from his if he accepts it hes just after the easy life for another year.

Pennington gone then

Shrewsbury offered him a new deal 2 weeks ago to stay there, Its on their own website if he decides to stay there

Manager Steve Cotterill On the new deals offered:

“I think Matthew Pennington has been an excellent professional since he walked through the door. He had a bit of a wobbly start but hadn’t played a lot of football if you look at him in the last 18 months.

“He has progressed, he’s still a young boy, whether we agree on terms or not I haven’t got the answers to that yet. It’s always handy when you can get a few more goals which we’ve seen from Aaron Pierre and how important his goals have been. Matthew Pennington has managed to make that a little forte of his own of late which I’m pleased with.

I've said numerous times in the past that I think it's beneficial to keep a few players around who know the drill and the younger lads can learn from. For that reason keeping someone like Anderson makes perfect sense to me. I can't really see any justification for keeping Broadhead though, that just seems like a really bizarre move.

That's it. I know a few people were saying what league experience does Anderson have, but it sort of misses the point. He wont be being kept because they think he can make it, but he will have certain standards having played for the 23s and he can help pass them on. He can also probably help say Thierry Small and/or Reece Welch through games which will help their development. Losing most games at any level actually doesnt help most younger players.

I actually put the Broadhead one into that category too. The 23s performances really went up when he was in the team. His movement was much better than Simms, so for players like Price, Onyango & Whittaker it's good practice for them to play with someone whereby some of their skills can be honed.

On the face of it both seem a bit strange but I can see some rational for both.

I don’t get it at all. We did the same with Pennington

Could Lewis Gibson be a lot better than we are giving him credit for?

If the first choice left back at Reading is getting the number 3 shirt on the Bayern Munich senior squad, what in the name of God were we doing lending him to Reading in the first place?

Earth calling Everton, come in Everton. Everton we cant hear you

Gibson isn't a LB anyway.

Best of luck to you Mathew in your future career, good, bad or indifferent you always came off the field after giving the best you could do in every game you played for Everton and your loan teams, no one could ask for more than that, yet players on ten times your wages have failed to do that for the Blues, you can hold your head up high.

Exactly. He's achieved things that even old duffers like me still dream about. Playing for the blues and scoring against them.
