Everton Youth Teams Thread

Does anybody know whether Everton make many signings at U15/U16 level? Manchester United looks like they’re about to sign three or four top players in that age bracket yet seems as though we never seem to make any of these signings.

Sign him he looks good

....one to look back on in 3 years time.
Someone on Twitter had an extremely extensive spreadsheet on all England youth squads 21-18 with a couple U16 squads going back to 07 and it's incredible how few players in each squad made it to be full time premier league players much less England internationals. Only one or two from each group end up full internationals with 6/7 from each squad being prem starters for any length of time.

The club rarely make any announcements about u15/16s, it seems to be that we keep them out of any headlines, so it can be difficult to track any signings at this level. Often the first you know is when they publish info on the new Scholars and it says when they joined the club and from whom we got them , where they’ve been e.g . Simms , via City and Blackburn.

As an example we‘ve had four players with England u15s in recent months, but I don’t believe the club has posted anything, your more likely to see something on an individual’s Twitter account or his school’s e.g. this from our u15 goalkeeper Seb Jensen was posted by his school - apologies, my Twitter posting skills are abysmal. :
So unless it’s a headline grabbing signing your unlikely to hear about it from the club.

...it’s an interesting discussion. I know the strategy was to bring through the Youth World Cup Winners, the team that included DCL, Jonjo Kenny & Dowell but that hasn’t transpired.

If one or two of this side turn out to be decent, I think Reece Welsh has a chance.

I think it’s the U17 World Cup winners from a few years ago who look the more promising - Foden , Sancho, Hudosn-Odoi, Smith - Rowe, Gibbs-White , Guehi, Brewster ........Lewis Gibson.... . That seems to meet the criteria mentioned ,first three are internationals already , another 3/4 likely to have PL careers. , always difficult to tell though for some who fade away.

Yep and looking back at that Youth world cup squad only 2 are in the current England set up, Henderson who was second choice to Woodman and DCL who was seen as the Robin to Solankes Batman. Its mainly potluck unless you have a Foden, Sterling, Sancho, Rooney type talent its best to just use England youth as a nice indicator for where they're at.

I like Welch but given our squad I think it may take him a while so will have to get lucky with a loan probably. Centre halves are notoriously hard though for all Eric Garcia gets raved about I just can't see it at all.

Thierry Small was one of only two 16 year olds in the entire squad with Alfie Devine who spurs pinched from Wigan the other. Not sure how feasible it was with our ban but would've liked to see us have more of a push on Weir, Devine and Gelhardt at the time.

Clubs have gag orders on their best players as well. I know for a fact united done everything they could to keep the media quiet on Shoretire for as long as possible. Often brief them to just report on match reports rather than profiling individuals till a certain age/level. It's in the clubs best interest to keep everything hush hush as long as possible to avoid other clubs sniffing around and keep hype down.

Seb Jensen is the son of Brian Jensen former goalkeeper for Burnley

You would think playing for England would be a good barometer of how good a player is at a certain age.

There are still a decent number of England youth players at non-premier league clubs.

A bit surprising that they dont get picked off by the bigger clubs.
