Everton Youth Teams Thread

Will be interesting watching him play premier League games at youth level he has alway been physically head and shoulders above his peers

out the 40 or so professionals at the club he is the most similar in style to doucoure, i think he would have made his PL debut last season if he didnt get injured.
interesting to see what happens over next couple of months, hopefully his recovery goes well and hes an option for benitez to consider at some point.

Interesting to see that now we have got rid of the 3 at the back we start to win games. I also think Price and Butterfield are too similar to play together. Warrington needs to seize his chance has he is a year further down the line. I can see Onyango being fast tracked into the first team squad once he's got a few more miles in his legs. It would be good if he could get a few games as it would show other youngsters there is a way to the first team with us. Dobbin has had a few minutes. Whitaker and Tyrer have sat on the bench.

It’s a bit tough on Anderson but 3 at the back is horrible at times. Campbell looks like he’s making the most of his opportunity, and is vaguely in the line behind Digne , albeit Godfrey , Branthwaite will be ahead of him . If we can pick up enough points by January to feel secure about loaning the likes of Astley and Branthwaite out then Campbell and others are likely to be looked at for bench places.
The U23s have three games before the first team play Wolves away, we play Watford at home before then. That’s time for Onyango to get fully up to speed and full fitness if Doucoure is still out, and potentially be cover for Allan/ Gbamin if they are our two deep mids. On the other hand maybe we don’t push Onyango too hard until he’s fully returned, and a couple of defeats for the U23s and we’re back to the gloom and doom scenarios.

I think in an emergency situation for the first team Anderson is probably ahead of Campbell. However I would rather they play Campbell in the u23s as that will aid his development whereas Anderson is passed that stage and was probably only kept to allow us some cover in that position. Good win all in all looks like the Mills RB experiment is over and they are now looking further up field for him.

We need John out on loan in January so we can see what Mills or Mallon can do at right back

I agree. Also Ashley so we can look at Kristiensen and Hagan.
And that will be an interesting dilemma for Unsworth . The issue of Kristensen and Hagan not getting game time came up as an issue in the Ellis Simms thread. Jack Tierney has looked impressive at Right Centre back when I’ve seen him and already he’s played nearly as many games at u18 as Hagan did last season . Two or three seasons ago Hagan and Kristensen would have played more. Now the u18s like Tierney , Metcalfe, Barker are more likely to be in the U23s after Christmas if they prove good enough or even the three Schoolboys who play regularly at U18s .

Think Kristensen and Hagans ship has sailed. Kristensen desperately unlucky with injuries but always seemed down the pecking order anyway. Him and Jagne haven't really worked out all things considered

I think it's likely Hagan will be released at the end of the season so it would be a waste giving him game time.

He's just turned 17 so while he's behind others at the minute it could change as the season goes on.
I think it's still bit early to write him off completely but you're probably right in long run

I don't think either will be good enough but they at least need a chance to show what they've got. Welch jumped above both of them when he was an u16 he was playing in u18s ahead. That may be that Welch us good. Campbell is also a CB by trade and it would be a shame if he never got a chance to show his worth there as he is filing in elsewhere. I'm guessing Higgins isn't going to make it either I think he's only been in one squad this season. Injuries can be so critical to development.

My opinion on player development is they should be in and about the squad of u18s when they are still schoolboys. When they are first year scholars they should be regular in the u18s by the end of the season and maybe even had a taste in u23s. As second year scholars they should start in the u18s but ultimately be in the u23s by half way through season. Then as first year pro that's when they should be regular starters in u23s and training with the first team. If a suitable loan can be found in 2nd half if season try and get them some proper football. I know that's a bit simplistic but they need to be progressing at that rate.

Tbf we've just had Mills at right back for 4 or 5 games and it didn't go very well. I agree that Mallon should start getting games after Christmas though, that feels like the natural move. Hopefully we'll sign a specialist left back for the 23s in January too
