…..it’s worth noting for those who suggest the problems are at U23 level.

I think anyone who takes a mild interest in our academy knows who are the standout players in our age groups. Certainly aren’t a team full of them.

….the thing is, if you have a truly outstanding individual at that level they make a difference to the whole team, especially in the big games.

As you probably know, I put emphasis on the FA Youth Cup as a real indicator. We got the final with Rooney, I would be surprised if any other player in that team had a career in the game.

We’ll always have individuals highlighted in age groups but they have to be very special to come into the PL.

Interesting list that
Watch Carlisle v Tranmere the other week Feeney was playing for Carlisle and Peter Clark for rovers he was MOM aged about 40 .
Feeny did OK but that's a poor side he plays for not that he particularly stood out for them
either in that game.
Think there was another ex youth player on the pitch for life of me can't think who it was?
You get a few ex youth players popping up when you watch that level , always like to see how they are doing.
Can't think of any I have said we could do with him back now.

If the game against Burnley was anything to go by then definitely not, and snodin was saying as much with comments like, “someone needs to be taking this game by the scruff of its neck and going look I’m the one who’s head and shoulders above everything else on this pitch but everyone is happy to play it safe”

Lots have a future in the pro game but not here. I am a pessimist but none of them stand out to me; I can watch academy games half asleep and never get woken up.

….I was an avid watcher at one stage & did so over many years. Rooney was an exception, but you know when you see somebody very special like Leon Osman. Those diamonds are rare.

Symes and Schumacher had decent lower level careers.
I think there was high hopes for Schumacher at one stage, might have been England under age captain
