Everton Youth Teams Thread

…I was asked by a well known Manager in the lower leagues if there was any players he should be interested in. I remember writing a little pen picture of individuals, suggesting the CM Hibbert could be converted to RB. Perhaps somebody else saw my note.

So you changed a worldy scoring CM Hibbert into a no threat can't cross can't score RB

ffs eggs lol ;)

…yep, Michael Ball didn’t play because he was with the first team. Sean o’Hanlon and maybe Richard Dunne around that time. A golden crop under Colin Harvey. I went to the game at Blackburn when Osman scored a belter.
Being a bit personal here Eggs, was you onEverton’s books at the time you saw them score in two away games in youth matches, if you wasn’t you were definitely a very avid supporter. Serious question Eggs not having a go.

….no I was well finished by the time those youngsters came through.

I was a regular at Bellfield in those days and took in many of the away games in the FA Youth Cup with my son & daughter in tow.

Just counted them: thirty five of them played twenty or less games for the club: eight of them played in two dead rubber games in Europe they were their only appearances: two or three of them I can’t remember and one or two just made brief substitute games, these come from Everton’s world famous Academy ( Everton FC’s description) !!!

…ha, ha. if you saw the goal he scored at Gigg Lane you’d be amazed at the number of first team games he played without scoring. It was such a blammo of a strike.

it was clear he was never good enough to progress as a midfielder but he was a tough youngster & I thought there was a case to convert him to FB. I have to be honest, I never thought he would have a career in the top flight & I’d probably stick with that opinion now!!

Good spot though mate that you seen something in him and thought he could make it as a right back.

From memory Denny seemed very highly rated as he was part of the Foden/Sancho/CHO/Brewster World Cup squad but didn't play much-which became a theme for his whole career to now. Highly rated on both video games and also listed as our one to watch on the guardians next gen series. Then IIRC he sort of got stuck in an awkward U18/U21 no man's land of not playing for either - Too good for U18 and not good enough for the 21s.

Was surprised we cut ties so quickly though as we released him 2 seasons ago and rangers were supposed to be sniffing around him

My memory of Alex Denny was that he really didn’t make much impression at all for us. I remember he was in the Euro U17s squad , I remember seeing Gibson at left back , he was then at Newcastle but can’t remember seeing Denny. At least the likes of Joe Williams and Liam Walsh made an impression even if they didn’t make it with us. Maybe he’s a slow burner who will climb the leagues, good luck to him if he does but I can’t see it.
