I don’t want to name names on here but a few of them keepers you’ve mentioned are miles away. They won’t be here for long.

I'm not saying any of them are close or ever going to be good enough. Only one of them in the list I actually rate and a couple others I haven't seen enough of but clearly aren't fancied. I was responding to it possibly being an emergency cover sort of signing which it clearly isn't.

I've got no problem with the signing it's just an out the blue one with short term. It's not every day we sign a smaller keeper who's been out of the academies for 2 years.

Keepers are almost impossible to predict anyway though. I gave up trying after Butland.

Would you have stuck with Virginia + Tyrer or gone for Begovic and Lonergan?

The 1st team mins he had I thought Virginia looked decent. Only 3 games ish of course and I thought Nkounkou looked like Roberto Carlos then too lol

They were never keeping 2 young inexperienced keepers as cover for pickford

Basically this. Given how poor the loan to sporting is, I can only assume the club don't rate Virginia as even having the slightest chance of ousting Pickford and this is a gamble on making a tiny profit.

Personally I thought he looked solid but goalies are very difficult to judge imo.

Tosun and Branthwaite too. It be worth playing both Simms and Branthwaite in the U23s match against City to give them some game time .

In addition to Dobbin, some comments under that post indicate Reece Welch will soon be free to talk to other clubs. Are they not 2 of our most promising youngsters? Anyone know why they're not tied down longer?

Yeah, that would be a surprise, as he is one of the better all round younger players for me,

The Athletic had been saying for a while he is very much weighing up his options, and contract talls have been going nowhere. And considering thats the uber positive news site who was very bullish that Small was going to stay, he's probably already got one foot out the door.

I don't think that highly of dobbin but it'd be yet another nail in the academy coffin of he does go.
