Everton Youth Teams Thread

He's won the league a few times, can't see why he is getting stick. Not his fault the young players haven't come through. Our last 4 managers haven't been famed for giving young players a chance. I think if you look down the premier league, its only Chelsea who have a really good crop of home grown players. But they buy everyone and loan them out in the hope one or two will become topclass.

Regarding Thierry Small, he has played for Southampton's 1st team - he started the FA Cup tie with Coventry but was subbed at h/t when they were 1-0 down. I read conflicting accounts of how he performed - one gave him 3/10, one said he started shakily but improved, another said he looked 'promising but not explosive'.

Otherwise he's been sat on the bench and in the 1st team squad a few times, a bit like some of our youngsters.

He was certainly an exciting prospect but I always felt there was still a lot of schoolboy in how he played: not too keen on actually defending and wanting to do a fancy trick almost every time he got the ball.
Giving a 17 year old full back making his full debut a 3/10 seems extraordinarily harsh unless he scored a couple of own goals!

It's 6 years too late but better late than never I guess... I'm guessing Kevin Thelwell played a part in him leaving because I doubt Rhino would be leaving off his own back, wasn't he recently given a promotion just the other year?

Certainly looks that way if you ask me. Regardless of who has made this decision it is great news, nothing personal against Unsworth but the academy has gone to the dogs under him. The disgusting 'jobs-for-mates' culture needs ripping out root and stem.

Kenwright his horrible gob with his statement, can tell he's devastated at this news. An ally gone.

He won the league one year playing over age players like Niasse who scored quite a few goals for theU23’s, concentrating on winning honours wasn’t his forte, bringing through young kids was, so I think he has been very lucky to have a held a well paid job for so long and I’ll guarantee he won’t be paid anywhere near the wages he got at Everton when and if he gets another job, maybe he’ll take Duncan on as his assistant.although BillyBoy will fight to save him.

We assuming he’s been told to leave rather than saying he wants to leave? Hopefully a few more boardroom faces to follow him out of the door.
I think that is what it is myself, you dont say you are leaving to be a 1st team Boss etc, when you have already turned down 1st team Jobs to stay were you are because you had a safe option, but that is just my thinkng

Unsworth was also of course Academy Director as well as u23s manager , if we keep those titles then the job is an attractive proposition for somebody external. Lee Carsely would be my choice if we can prise him away from the England set up .
