Everton Youth Teams Thread

It’s rare but Chelsea played an under 15 a few times last year. Wigan also played one in their title winning team and both those clubs have strong goalkeeping set ups.

(The lad at at Wigan is a big Evertonian as well).
He’s done very well so far , playing for our u15s last month when they won the PL u15 Championship and then for the u14s recently when likewise they won the PL U14 Championship. I’m guessing from that and his England u15 caps that he’s 14 now and has his birthday Sept-Dec this year, so in 12 months time if he’s progressing and good enough it’s not too fanciful for him to be in an u18 squad as a 15 year old schoolboy. Time will tell, we do seem to have had a raft of “ potentially good” young keepers in recent years without any yet breaking through.

….historically, its hard to identify a keeper coming through the Academy and becoming a regular first teamer, even going back to Dunlop and Rankin. Feeling was, goalkeepers mature with age but perhaps that trend is changing. It would be good to find one good enough to back up Pickford.

It seems that John Ebbrell is taking over the u23s manager role until the end of the season,3games, but not the Academy Director role that Unsworth had.
That's the strange part of the unsworth departure. If it really is as innocent as it was his choice and he wants to pursue being a manager, if he hasn't got something lined up for next week why not see out the season?

Unless they want to see if Ebbrell can replace him full time and are giving him a 3 game audition?

Seems like it's a sacking dressed up as a resignation for him to save face with any future employers

It could be that he's on gardening leave if he's already accepted job starting in the summer. No idea if that's the case obviously, but it's certainly a possibility.

Well , we’ll see tomorrow if Ebbrell is in charge.

already covered but the club have finally got round to congratulating them

Thats good news but as ever the key is in progressing these young lads into premier league standard players.
We have been here before i remember about 10 years ago watching a youth team captained by a certain Jonjoe Kenny win a prestigious tournament and they looked impressive but ultimately none of them made it at Everton, hopefully this crop are different.

i know people dislike kenny but hes still made over 50 first appearances for the 1st team. if he was bigger he'd have been a good centre back.
i'm sure these kids would love to make 50+ appearances for the 1st team but there are so many variables the chances are against it.

…I was going to make a similar point, JJK is a success story. He came through the ranks as a CB but size was always against him. He won a Youth World Cup with England in a side that also included DCL, Dowell & Lookman. All four of them are currently in the top flight & will be very wealthy young men.

Regardless of how we rate them, they made it.

An Everton win will almost for cert keep Everton up as they would be 7 points clear of Relegation with Chelsea having 3 games left - defeat would mean they had to do something against the top 2 in their final 2 games

Good to see Garcia getting some minutes. He's had rotten luck with injuries.
