….3 years is a decent deal for Cannon. I’ve always liked him & thought him a decent height/shape but I don’t think he’s grown much these last 18months.

Indeed, Cannon has been the standout of the u21s so far this season, you can’t just pitch him into the PL given the state of our team but minutes against Fleetwood would be good. Similarly with Mills, it’s poor that he’s not making the bench and also not getting game time for the u21s.Would not surprise me, but if he was i hope it's not just this thing were they are there just to make numbers up, just give him a little chance and not just the final minute etc
Cannon going on loan? Seen a few things pop up this morning about it.
Wouldn't surprise me if it was done before the Fleetwood game, as it would have been good to give him some minutes against Fleetwood.
Wouldn't be a shock; Thelwell did say this in the contract renewal interview:
“We have a specific development plan in place for Tom and I am looking forward to seeing him continue to progress.”
Alot of people seemed to think with the 5 sub rule that these kids ith 0 Premier League experience would start getting minutes ahead of the likes of Gray, Alli & RondonIndeed, Cannon has been the standout of the u21s so far this season, you can’t just pitch him into the PL given the state of our team but minutes against Fleetwood would be good. As stated, we can’t just pitch in youngsters for the sake of it , but hopefully somebody has a plan to use them. It says it all about how far behind we are when City brought on a 17 year old last week , no big deal , they were in control , had world class players around him, but it just makes it so much harder to keep hold of our own 16/17 year olds if we can’t offer them a glimmer of progression to the first team.
Well I haven't seen people saying they should start games , let alone a lot of people , but if you’ve seen them fair enough, I would say they were wrong. The point I was making re the PL was not that they should start but that we have a talented youngster, Stanley Mills , who appears to be in limbo , not on the bench for the first team , not playing for the u21 s .Alot of people seemed to think with the 5 sub rule that these kids ith 0 Premier League experience would start getting minutes ahead of the likes of Gray, Alli & Rondon

Everton Under-21s striker Tom Cannon has signed a new three-year deal with the Club until June 2025.
The 19-year-old joined Everton’s Academy aged 10 and has made impressive progress throughout his time with the Blues.
A strong, mobile striker, Cannon combines sharp, intelligent movement with excellent finishing ability.
The Republic of Ireland youth international has taken significant strides over the past 12 months, in particular – he finished as Everton Under-21s’ top scorer last season with eight Premier League 2 goals.
The Aintree-born attacker has kicked off this campaign in blistering fashion, too, and has scored four goals across Everton Under-21s' opening three league games.
“It means a lot to sign this new deal,” Cannon told evertontv. “I want to really kick on now and I’m excited about what the future holds.
“Everton is a very good place to develop. I’ve got the right people around me and they help me every day.
“The coaching has been great here and I’m very grateful for all the time they’ve given me.
“I feel, over the past year, I feel I’ve developed more physically and I’m looking forward to progressing even more.
“Hopefully I can keep scoring and playing well and get more involved with the First Team. There’s nothing more I want to do than to play for Everton.”
Cannon has netted regularly at every age-group level during his nine years with Everton and explained how his goalscoring instinct was apparent from a young age.
“Ever since I was a kid playing with my brothers or kicking the ball around in the park, I’ve always had an eye for goal,” he explained.
“I was always lashing in balls in the garden – the grass was getting wrecked!
“It’s always been in me. No matter the situation, I’ll always back myself in front of goal. I just love scoring.”
Cannon says he is now relishing the chance link up with Under-21s boss Paul Tait again, having flourished under Tait’s management when he led Everton’s Under-18 side. The striker enjoyed an exceptional campaign for that team in 2019/20, netting 16 goals in just 15 league matches.
“Taity’s a very good coach and I get on very well with him,” he added.
“I feel like I can speak to him about anything.
“I’ve already had multiple chats with him so far this season and they’ve all been positive. He’s very open and honest, which I feel you need. It’s great to be back working with him."
Everton Director of Football Kevin Thelwell praised Cannon’s application and ability – and is confident he can take his game to new heights.
“I am so pleased Tom has committed his future to Everton,” Thelwell said.
“He is a very talented young striker. He has an excellent work ethic and has proven his ability to score goals at every level he has played at.
“We have a specific development plan in place for Tom and I am looking forward to seeing him continue to progress.”
I haven't watched any of our teams outside the first XI for ages. Who are the next prospects coming in if Gordon leaves?
Thought Branthwaite showed potential. Be nice to see some pacey MFs/ CF prospects given a go in early cup rounds...
