Everton Youth Teams Thread

Worrying that we are losing our best youth players. Isaac Price was offered a contract but left saying "I can’t wait to go over and get started. Hopefully, I can improve a lot more over there and in a different side of the game. It’s a lot more technical." Ishe Samuel Smith is now leaving. Lawrence left for City last year. Is it because players with the potential to go to a high level in the game do not see Everton as being the correct environment to fulfil that potential? In games that I have watched the U21 seem very direct in their style of play - very similar to the 1st team. At the very top level of football it's all about possession and we don't play that style.

….so many more opportunities (financial & developmental) these days. They might be the best young players but only a few will make it so understandably they look to make as much as they can in case they fail. A couple of top flight professional contracts will give them some start in life.

Lets not forget, Everton take promising youngsters from other clubs.

Mount. Abraham. Hall. Chalobah. Hudson Odoi.

All five debuted after Tom Davies.

And all of them are better than any players we have had since then. And most of the above were given a chance by Lampard, without him they dont blood young players.

Come on mate, be honest, if you were ISS dad, who's team hes more likely to get in, us or Chelsea?

I'm not saying I would advise my kid to stay at Everton, I'd probably advise them to do what Price did and go and play. Cant see much sense in going to Chelsea.

Yeh so....they haven't become better players without a shed load of nurturing and development at Chelsea.

Be it coaching, loans, opportunities..

Id wager ISS has a better chance of being an elite footballer with Chelsea than he does with Everton.

I'm not massively convinced about that. Im not sure how many players they have massively improved through their academy, as we did with say a Gordon as a pro.

He will be one of many great young players, most of them at Chelsea dont really kick on.

But I maintain hes more likely to get first team chances here.

Heath was highly rated a couple of years ago but has never really kicked on. Neat and tidy, tricky at times but his size counts against him , you have to have something extra to stand out when you’re small. I think he’ll struggle for starts at u21 with a decent crop of midfielders in his year and below him. Cue an outstanding season for him.

I would say the opposite is true.

He will find it incredibly difficult to get into a team that is expected to win every game, his development will include loans to other premiership clubs or more likely championship clubs. Chelsea are awash with players like ISS and they will be away from the first team squad I expect.

If Chelsea are so good at developing talent then why have then spent half a billion in twelve months signing players ?

cos they've made about quarter of a billion selling players that played for under age teams in last few years.
even if he doesnt establish himself there they'll probably still make significant profit

But, the arguement was they would better players with " shed load of developing and nurturing at Chelsea".

The argument that Chelsea can develop them and then sell on to make a profit is a different argument and would suggest a factory type scenario rather than a nurturing one.

You take away the Chelsea transfer embargo and many of those don’t get the opportunity to cement a place over the course of a season

Of course. Cos we're a mess behind the scenes with no plan and change managers every season.

We give zero opportunities to play them in the first team. Few mins here or there or even the league cup.
