Everton Youth Teams Thread

I don’t see why people are bothered. It’s clear the agent, whist using the ‘pathway’ adage, wanted money. He’s the second best natural left back at the club… there is his pathway.

The kid gets his future secured and we can put 4m towards a forward. IMO we should be doing this a lot more… buy the kids from abroad and sell our youth to the rich 6

This is similar to Thierry Small. The agent and I assume the player and his family have opted for the get rich quick approach.
Even if he never makes the grade at Chelsea then he is already a very rich young man.

The argument that there is a better pathway to the first team is clearly nonsense. They have spent nearly half a billion on players in six months, have a new manager and are under enormous pressure to win trophies immediately.

We have one left back and our centre backs are generally not of the highest quality.
We don't have a pathway to the first team, we have a motorway.

This ones the better Samuels Smith anyway

As i keep saying, i don't think the end game for a lot of these young lads, at City and Chelsea in particular is the first team at the club they are at.
But more of a learning curve nurturing them to make the best move when they are 19-21! Its sort of treated abit like the college footbal/basketball system in America

Chelsea & City don't hold on to there young players like clubs like us do! The Premier League and Europe is littered with ex acadamy players from Chelsea in particular

quite a few they've made a fortune on that barely played for them and some people seem glad they've taken our best prospect for a relative pittance.

Hunt is a better LB than him. He’s also not a natural LB. Well, maybe to Stevie Wonder.

I
There has been a recent change in Premier League rules which means that, by the start of the 2024/25 season, all Premier League clubs must have an Academy at Category Three level or higher. It is also necessary to have an Academy in order to gain a licence to compete in UEFA competitions.
Category 3 shouldn’t be too hard for Brentford to obtain, Wrexham have just reformed their academy and applied for a Cat 4 license as a transitional season with a view to applying for Cat3 for 2024/25 season.

We lose all the best local talent to bloody Wigan. Seems pointless at times.
I don't see why we couldn't operate the brentford way of signing 18 year olds anyway. That's essentially what we did when we grabbed Simms and he likely netted us 8 million and Nkounkou who got us 2.

Problem with shutting the academy is you then completely lose access to anyone half decent and miss out on selling a 16 year old for 4 million or a Gordon for 40. There's basically no upside to it that you couldn't already do with an academy

Is what the club ahould be doing is a risk but is some value to be made. Take some chances from some of the lads in scotland and in lower league.

We're now at the point where risks can't be made sadly. Too skint to buy anyone not for the first team and they need to be slam dunks or we will get relegated.
