Everton Youth Teams Thread

Not 100% clear yet but I assume we offered him a new contract which he refused. His old contract ran out on his 17th birthday in June. The £4m figure quoted would be a compensation fee negotiated with Chelsea to avoid the bother of a tribunal (so likely a Small situation)

And Chelse may have wanted to avoid it going to the open market and having a bidding war for the player.

Not a good look when you develop them for nearly 10 years then sell them to a more successful team before he plays a single minute on your first team. The only way Everton is likely going to elevate itself from the relegation war is to actually use this young talent to start winning. They probably invested close to £4 million in training him to this point and that money can't buy anything that matters to this roster.
A small fraction of 4 million invested in one 17 year old academy player, get real. And 4m pays for Rodrigo, or potentially a loan fee for a player who can make a difference to the first team, like Danjuma or De Ketelaere.

Money no object, we don’t sell the kid. But he clearly wants to go, and we can make use of the money, he may or may not turn out to be a top flight professional footballer but right now it’s better for us to have the money than to take that risk.

But you can count on 2 hands the number of lads his age and under who have been sold for £40m up front, with add ons attached. So of course it's the exception. But it proves the theory, that we took a lad who honestly wouldnt have stood out in Chelsea's youth teams, and I got him to a CL team in 12 months.

As for what I'd recommend, youd have to look at the deal wouldnt you? But I'd probably avoid clubs where my lad was being farmed out on loan here there and everywhere, and want him to have a settled environment where he would get a chance to play in their first team. That would be more likely at Everton than Chelsea from what I can see.

How on earth can you state a young player has more chance of first team football at Everton than Chelsea?

We've brought through one in years. Chelsea bring through one a year.

I am personally not arsed. I don’t know if he’ll even grow into the body required to play centre half in top level footie.
For me there’s always something exciting seeing a youngster come through to your first team and doing well, and I’m disappointed he’s gone. I must admit though I’ve gone through the Six Stages of grief faster than Homer Simpson . He’s gone , we move on , and as you say the major doubt about ISS discussed on here was whether he’d fill out enough to be a PL centre back , cos “ the next Leighton Baines” he isn’t .

I wonder what will happen with Odin? He's Ishé's twin so presumably their contracts would have expired on the same date.
Odin is also on a 2year Scholar‘s contract until June 24 . We can offer him a pro contract now he’s 17 as with Martin Sherif, offer him a pro contract July 2024 , as happened today with Ed Jones , let him go in June 24 or he can leave .

Looks like they are announcing these pro deals at one a day. We will eventually find out if he stays.

Ah I see now. Thanks, that makes sense. Ishé was on a Scholar's contract until June 2024. I mistakenly thought his contract had expired. Possibly he was offered a pro contract like Martin Sherif, but rejected it? We would then be left with the choice of cashing in now, or keeping him for one more year and receiving far less compensation from the tribunal.
