Everton Youth Teams Thread

Off-topic of sorts but I was watching the UEFA Youth League a bit last season and whilst very impressed with the set up and quality, was wondering how Everton would go about qualifying for it? Is it the U18 champions of respective countries? I saw Chelsea won last season and I think Arsenal were in it too but it's listen on wiki as originally called an U19 Champion's League.

Edit: Never mind, it seems it's the youth teams of the CL qualified teams. Shame really, good test for the lads if we could get into it.

Yep, agree it is a shame that it's not the best Youth teams in a country involved, last time I looked City were top of their Group , United second in theirs and we've beaten City once United twice this season. They play in the same format as the Senior side so Youth teams can travel with them to away fixtures, so that bit makes sense.
From last Saturday's team, using 1st Sept eligibility, we could have added such promising players as Connolly, Yates, Davies, Walsh, Holland, Dowell and Evans so arguably some of our best players were missing and have moved up to u21 level. I'm sure other teams are similar. But it would have been interesting though to see how our "best team" , Connly , Dowell etc fared against the best in Europe.

The "Next Gen" league which was privately run league set up by a UK company a few years ago was the best youth teams from each country against each other, it was an excellent competition, unfortunately it was so successful that UEFA banned it and launched their own competition which only the youth teams of the Champions League teams qualify for.

Rodriguez
Brewster
Duffus
Byrne

Whose most likely to make the 1st team squad?

Byrne seems an odd signing so far...

I doubt Byrne will make it. Much too one paced. Brewster I think his the best chance of being a first team player for Everton in the long term.
However Duffus would be the one who is nearest to the first team currently. He looks very reminiscent of how James Vaughan was in his movements. Similar build and way of running.

Unsworth really likes him and he is able to play the lone man up front which is quite a skill. He is very hard working and before his injury he was training with the first team on occasions.

....just looked at a few clips of Brewster and he's certainly got potential. Looking at his parents I doubt he'll be physically big but he's a fine athlete with an eye for a goal and a sweet left foot. Interesting that his injury was back related, perhaps a growing spurt that the club felt best left alone.

Which isn't the same thing at all. I hate them and FIFA so much. Everything they do is wrong. If you assume "showing the games on the telly and letting people attend live" isn't worth congratulating them for then they do nothing right.
