Everton Youth Teams Thread

On this seasons form it would seem well deserved.
Indeed. Broadhead was playing for Wales u17s last season along with Ryan Harrington who must have been 16 then. Wales, like Scotland and Ireland, are usually weaker than England at this level so promote their promising players early. Though not sure if they have an u18 side. Great experience for him.
I noticed recently that Everton have one player in the Wales u16 squad and four in the U15s so it's proving to be a fruitful scouting area for us.

Delboy does well and a round up of the rest:
Gerard Deulofeu continued his excellent form by scoring a hat-trick for Spain Under-21s on Thursday evening.

The winger was the star of the show, captaining his country to a 5-0 victory over Georgia in the Euro 2017 qualifier.

Deulofeu opened the scoring with a crisp low finish from the edge of the area after a quarter of an hour.

He got his and Spain Under-21s’ second of the game with a 25-yard free-kick just after the half-hour mark.

And after Inaki Williams and Dani Ceballaos added to the tally, Deulofeu put the gloss on a comprehensive victory in the closing stages with a left-footed drive.

Earlier on Thursday, also in qualifying for the 2017 Under-21 European Championships, England drew 0-0 with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

However, Blues defender Brendan Galloway missed the game with a muscle complaint.

Head coach Gareth Southgate had earlier said: “He [Galloway] is being assessed, he is with us. It's a muscular injury but we don't want to take any chances. Maybe he is ok for Monday. We don't know yet.”

Meanwhile, at Under-19 level, Ryan Ledson was on the scoresheet for England in their 2-2 draw away in Holland.

The midfielder got the Young Lions back in it with 15 minutes remaining, before Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham netted a late equaliser.

Callum Connolly and Jonjoe Kenny were named as substitutes.

At the same age group, Nathan Broadhead started for Wales Under-19s as they beat Georgia 3-0.

Anyone seen Henen play? I bought tickets to Peterborough vs Fleetwood (got given a voucher) and turns out Henen joined on loan yesterday and will likely play as some point which is cool. Just wondering what to expect? Does he have too much quality for league 1 or is it just right for him right now?

We (well I) have only seen him play reserve football so far in which he is impressive but the level of competitiveness is far below that of actual league football so it's hard to say whether he's above League One. Technically speaking it should be comfortable for him but I think he'll find the physical side of it tough to start with; I'm fine with this as it will only benefit him moving into potentially Premier League football. I haven't seen Fletwood play this season barring some highlights on The Football League Show so have no idea on their style of play but if it's very long ball & direct you probably won't notice Henen as much if he's put on out wide left. Just my two cents anyway.

More cents than me, can never know what to expect from our youth team players, as I only have youtube clips to go by.

...he certainly has the athleticism and size to be able to cope. He's 6ft 1in and pacey. I think he was finding things too easy at U21 level and needs to be more clinical. He should be less wasteful playing open age, competitive football. I think he has a bit of attitude about him so it'll be interesting to see how he copes if he's clattered or wound up. He's talented but might be a sending off along the way.

Henen - from the U21 games I've seen - seems to get at least 2-3+ really good 1v1 situations but doesn't seem to be clinical at all yet. Not sure if he's just not a finisher or that the less competitive nature of reserve football isn't really pushing him to be ruthless. In League One when promotion/relegation and the financial effects are on offer he's going to need to mature and show he's ready to play for Everton. I'm confident if given regular chances he'll do well at Fleetwood.

Given the convoluted manner we undertook to get him , you've got to believe that Roberto sees something in Henen. He once talked about him needing to develop physically and adapt to English football, so he obviously now thinks he's done that and the time is right for him to go out on loan. For me he's currently in the same category as McAleny and Conor Grant, all skilful players but do they have the application to make a step up?
The big factor these days for all our young players looking to step up is that there is a Full International playing in their position in the first team. They need to make the most of all opportunities coming their way whether on loan or brief squad appearances. And we need to have patience and give them time.

Agreed. I quite like how we're giving a player 1-3 months on loan then bringing them back, and staggering them through the squad. Means the youngsters aren't overawed by a full season away from Finch Farm but they're also getting a taste of competitive football whilst maintaining the relationships & training methods they're receiving at Finch Farm. Quite a clever way to push progression along in my opinion. Luckily for Henen as well he has age on his side in that he's going into League 1 as an 18-year old whereas McAleny is struggling at 23.

Reading through the youth team thread and seeing how well the under 18s have been doing last few years.
I remember we won the league in 2011 as well as 2014, I have done a list of the main squad members of that 2011 team to see how they are getting on now (including Ross as he was injured).
If you feel I have missed anyone out then let me know and I will add them to the list.
Interesting to see were they have moved on to and the difference in success

Tom Doneghan: A talented forward player who moved to Fulham shortly after the title win, he made an appearance for Martin Jols side in a europa league qualifier but that was it. Is now playing for Rhyll in the welsh premier league

Gerard Kinsella: Got released by Everton and went to Fleetwood Town, got himself a two year drug ban for steroids, had injury & off field problems at Fleetwood Town and it seems I cant find out where he is playing now
upload_2015-11-13_10-12-46.webp

Anton Forrester: Another youngster who left to try and find first team football, Forrester joined Blackburn in 2012, has only made one FA Cup appearance for Blackburn and apart from a loan spell at Bury in 2013-14 were he notched 6 goals in 25 appearances has been restricted to reserve team football

upload_2015-11-13_10-12-40.webp

Adam Thomas: Now at Hednesford Town in the National League North, Thomas left Everton to join Stoke seeking out a way into first team football, a loan to Macclesfield from Stoke didn’t work out and he eventually got released by Stoke to sign for Hednesford
upload_2015-11-13_10-12-27.webp

Hallum Hope: An England youth international with the likes of Garbutt & Barkley, a strong quick forward acquired from Manchester City, a spell with the under 21s then mixed loan spells Northampton, Sheffield Wednesday & Bury ended in Hope leaving the club in 2015 for Bury, is currently on loan at Carlisle
upload_2015-11-13_10-12-14.webp

Johan Hammer: STOP HAMMER TIME! Swedish youth prospect Hammer spent time on loan at Stockport before leaving the blues in 2013 to join old club Malmo, he is currently on loan at Norweigan team FK Fredikstad. How he is doing is anyone’s guess
upload_2015-11-13_10-9-38.webp

John Lundstram : Racked up 70 odd appearances on loan at several different clubs including Blackpool & Yeovil. A player who had ability and apart from Barkley was probably the most likely to make it at Everton in this age group. Currently doing well at Oxford and may be one of them players who has needed to take a step backwards to take a step forwards
upload_2015-11-13_10-9-28.webp

Femi Orenuga: The signing from Southend who made his debut at 15 didn’t really live up to the hype when we first signed him. Moves to team names such as Whitehawk & Raufoss explain his journey pretty much. Currently played 4 games for Gloucester City
upload_2015-11-13_10-9-18.webp

George Waring: Scored the winning goal in the play off final vs. Fulham and like Thomas left to join the Stoke academy. At 20 is still at stoke and young enough to make a go of it there, a loan spell at Barnsley this year brought him 6 goals in 20 appearances.
upload_2015-11-13_10-9-10.webp

Ross Barkley: Didn’t play in this season due to a bad injury involving Andre Wisdom but was part of this age group growing up, has gone on to play over 100 games for everton and 17 england caps. The Jewell in the crown……………or the diamond
