Everton Youth Teams Thread

That's clearly a disappointing result , having players start 3 games in such a short time period wasn't ideal but hey losses happen . Not a great run of games recently, 3 defeats on the bounce and the reality is you only need 2 or 3 from this team to make it to play PL for us and it will have been massively successful , but a long way to go yet to achieve this.

Admittedly I don't get to see much of the youth teams (especially with how little live coverage they get), but there seems to be a lot of hype around them that isn't yet justified.. It would be interesting to see if one youngster starts to show that he's a class above the opposition at that level.

Think there having a good season mate.doing well in the league record is something like won 11 drawn 2 lost 3 so cant complain there.alot of the players are moving up and down to the under 21's as well so sometimes not a settled team.

Not only are our U18s joint top of their league with one game in hand

but we often have a younger squad than our opponents as we promote them quickly to the U21s to challenge them.

It is not realistic to produce a Barkley every year on a regular basis but we've still got quite a few players that are doing well in comparison to their age group peers and hopefully they continue that.

Personally don't think it constructive to either hype them up too much or say they aren't living up to their hype - cautious optimism seems a better approach!

Cautious optimism : The tagline of Everton :)

FA Youth Cup report: Everton 0-1 Villa

Hepburn-Murphy heads Villa into round four.

Rushian Hepburn-Murphy was the hero as Villa progressed to the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup In dramatic circumstances.

Both teams had dominant spells in a closely-fought contest at Goodison Park but a last-minute header from Hepburn-Murphy earned the claret and blues the victory.

Ben Petty's team had the better chances overall but they did ride their luck at times with Everton's Delial Brewster hitting the woodwork on two occasions.

Swedish goalkeeper Viktor Johansson - who only made his debut for the club in Saturday's Barclays U18 Premier League win over Brighton - also produced a crucial second-half save to deny Brewster.

But overall Villa were good value for the win and they can now look forward to a fourth round trip to Accrington Stanley or Crystal Palace.

The visitors received a boost ahead of this round three clash as England U17 wideman Andre Green was declared fit.

It meant Petty was able to field the exciting quartet of Hepburn-Murphy, Green, Corey Taylor and top scorer Callum O'Hare in attack.

And after a cagey opening 10 minutes, Villa were soon able to show their attacking intent.

Hepburn-Murphy capitalised on some hesitation in the Toffees' defence and rounded goalkeeper Ciaran O'Loughlin but couldn't force his shot home from a tight angle.

O'Loughlin denied the teenage forward on the half-hour mark before O'Hare's follow-up was cleared off the line by Morgan Feeney.

There was a scare for the away side just before the break when Brewster showed Easah Suliman a clean pair of heels only to see his fierce left-foot drive strike the post.

The pendulum turned in Everton's favour in the second-half and Villa had Johansson to thank - the 17-year-old thwarting Brewster from point-blank range.

Brewster went close again on 70 minutes when he flicked Kieran Dowell's cross onto the bar.

O'Loughlin gifted Hepburn-Murphy an opportunity six minutes from time but recovered well to block the England youth international's effort.

But just as the game seemed to be heading for extra-time, Hepburn-Murphy pounced for his fifth goal of the U18 campaign.

Anes Omerovic delivered a succession of dangerous set-pieces throughout the game and he saved the best until last.

His pinpoint inswinging free-kick in the dying seconds was brilliantly headed home by Hepburn-Murphy to send Villa through to the fourth round.

EVERTON: O'Loughlin, Yates, Feeney, Bainbridge, Connolly, Baningime, Walsh, Donohue, Broadhead, Evans, Brewster. Subs: Jones, Holland (for Broadhead 80), Yarney, Dowell (for Evans HT), Lavery (for Baningime 57).

VILLA: Johansson; Clark, Omerovic, Suliman, Abdoul; Clarke; Green, Hayes, O'Hare, Taylor; Hepburn-Murphy. Subs: Linley, Idem, Humphries (for Hayes 75), Zeidan (for Green 85), Mooney (for Clarke 89).

Not sure what positives to take from this only that such a loss at least shows them that they need to keep improving and not listen to any premature hype.

think the hype is fully justified at the moment to be honest. obviously you have players who people will think will make and they'll just fall short, but we have teams winnings things/being close to the top of their leagues whilst playing two years above their age category. there's a fair bit of difference between being 15 and 17.

totally agree.

I really don't understand the negativity expressed by some though. Yes, we've all got the right to express an opinion / have a say etc ... but if you're talking from a non-informed viewpoint (i.e. not seen the youngsters play and merely rely on the opinions of others, most of whom have not seen the youngsters play) then please if you've got nothing good to say, then say nothing.

We've got a lot of cracking youngsters coming through the ranks, as evidenced by the likes of Galloway breaking into the 1st team, Ledson MOTM in his first 2 games on loan at Cambridge, the 2 lads doing well at Doncaster ... and so on. I've been lucky enough to see a few U21 games this season and even to my untrained eye you cannot be impressed by the likes of Walsh, Holgate, Pennington etc etc.

Unfortunately the U21 and U18 leagues, cups etc seem to suffer from poor structuring, admin and so on .. further compounded by the clubs piss poor broadcasting of the games ... which denies so many of us the chance to follow the youngsters. Regardless we should remain optimistic, believe the hype and support these lads wholeheartedly as there is every chance they could be the rosy future of this club ... and all it may need is support and encouragement.
