Everton Youth Teams Thread

So from the clips Charsley was converted to a right back, interesting, and young Feeney looks tall enough and impossibly thin but not a worry at his age.
I'm not one for these Fantasy Team threads that GoT regularly has like " Which of Dixie Dean's team mates would you have in our squad", but I couldn't help thinking that with loanees , players not selected we could have put out another u21 team which would have rivalled our starting line up who did so well . How about : Hewelt, Kenny, Pennington , Holgate, Foulds; Ledson, Walsh, ; Evans, Henen, Grant; Brewster. Only Evans in the squad against City. Just shows yet again the strength in depth we have to win against a strong City team. But as ever tempered by the fact that only a few will make it at PL level.

...I suggest 'attitude' is the same as 'mental development'. So many professionals have a fearless attitude that often comes from their background/up bringing. I reckon it's why so many good players come from impoverished areas of Africa and South America. Many boxers have a similar background.

Yes often players like Rooney have something intrinsic in their personalities that make them quite fearless leaders on the pitch. That is something that can be developed a bit but is also quite inate.

Obviously sending everyone out on loan won't turn them into a Rooney in terms of their mental strength. However it can improve them and help them become more appreciative of the tricks of the trade. When to give a foul away, how to put an opponent off, how to avoid being put off by others stepping on your toes etc.

You can't substitute upbringing by you can make young players less green and give them the wherewithal of how to play. I am a great believer in life as well as football, in the end you only learn from doing it for real. Academy matches are still a long way from that whereas competitive football is much closer.

....I think 'attitude' is basically not being scared of a game of footy. It's about being fearless and as you say that is often an innate feature which is difficult to develop. It's why some less talented players can make a successful living at the game and also why a mix of real talent and attitude is a route to the top.

Starting line up virtually same as against City on Monday except Byrne in for Dufus
starting XI (to face @NUFC): Gray, Charsley, Connolly, Davies, Feeney, Thorniley, Dowell, Williams, Byrne, Rodriguez, McAleny.
This is a PL U21 cup match not a league game. Newcastle are in division 2 I.e. U21 division below us so normally you'd expect a win but it seems NUFC are playing a strong team.
