Everton Youth Teams Thread

...just watched Broadheads hat trick against Derby. 3 good finishes, a real desire to hit the box. Big tall lad with scope to fill out.
Crikey, yeah he does seem to have grown height wise this season. He's on a roll, 6 goals in his last three games . He seemed to miss a couple of games , presumably the red card he got against Middlesbrough kept him out . This season he's played a lot more centrally either as a 9 when Brewster or Lavery haven't been playing or as dual striker / 10 role when they have played. It will be great if he can keep up his scoring form in the final league.

yeh he was tiny when i first saw him playing for wales in the victory shield as a winger.

An interesting picture of the Wales team , shows that while he's not quite as tall as the GK he's same size as our young defender James Graham, standing next to him, who's a year older. ( Is Graham out on loan at a non league club or have i got that wrong?)
Also , for his headed goal that was a lovely cross from the right back James Yates, who has shown good promise playing for England U17 as RB , but seemed to slip down a bit this season ,maybe injuries .

not to sure where he is gone.his contract is up in the summer anyway.

ya great cross from yates.reminded so much of seamus coleman although he hasn't been doing that a lot lately maybe he needs to have a look at that video.he got badly caught out for the goal.i know he was waiting for the pass but big risk to take centre of goal should have been closer but was the other lads fault just as much if not more.cracking finish from the derby lad all the same.

ya I liked broadheads first goal.5 derby defenders around and none looked interested whereas he was following up looking for any sniff or break and he was rewarded.

why doesnt he give him osmans spot on the bench for a few games then?

"9) Leon Osman (35 in May)
Less than three years ago Leon Osman played for England. Let that sink in for a second and then thank your god of choice for Dele Alli and Eric Dier and Ross Barkley. This season Osman might as well have changed his name to Unused Sub: it’s happened 19 times in the Premier League.

Eighteen years after he won the FA Youth Cup with Everton in a team that also featured Richard Dunne, Francis Jeffers and Danny Cadamarteri, Osman’s Toffees career is coming to an end. Or is it? After all, the famously sentimental Roberto Martinez inexplicably gave a new contract to…

8) Tony Hibbert (turned 35 last week)
“I would love to keep a character like Tony Hibbert, who means so much to us,” said soppy Bobby M before handing a new two-year contract to a right-back who had played a grand total of three minutes in the 2013/14 season. He has barely been seen since. Surely there cannot be another reprieve?

Brilliantly, Tim Howard recently named Hibbert (‘he’s as likely to fight you as smile at you’) in his World XI alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, Didier Drogba and Ryan Giggs; Paul Scholes was on the bench."

A piece from football 365 on older players out of contract this summer. I wonder if being an unused sub would really have benifitted Dowell that much as he does need game time, maybe a loan in the new season if we don't get Europe. I would love to see the stats on unused sub's appearances for the club if anyone would know where I'd find them? Mirallas must surely be leading the way in that respect.

Unsurprisingly Distin is number one and appears to be even more bullish in his desire to keep playing.

I love the Distin one:

He is barely two weeks younger than his manager. And he has started nine Premier League games this season. Okay, Bournemouth conceded 21 goals in those nine games, but sod that: He is 38 years old.

My lad played against an Elite academy last nite, they got played off the park, best player by some distance was a lad at Everton Elite, Under 11's.

Quality player.

....love watching youngsters playing footy. Whilst it's great to see quality, what's more important are the life skills and friendships gained from just playing. Encourage your son to enjoy his footy, he'll have friends for life.

Reading that, it's taken from an interview on Everton TV where's there's a 40 min round up recently. Anyway, it does come over more strongly in the spoken word that Martinez is likely to give Dowell a chance before the end of the season. It showed the goal again, but missed out his excellent strike in the fIrst half which brought out a great save from their GK. Thanks again to Southamton FC for showing us what ETV missed out.
As an aside, Man City's team that lost 5-1 to Chelsea the other day had 3 starters and one coming off the bench who were also in the u21 team we beat 1-0 the other month., which suggests we have some talented youngsters around. But many will also will say " there you go that's what you get when you play youngsters, same happened to Liverpool in the cup " . I think we missed the opportunity to have a couple on the bench in earlier rounds, that opportunity has gone now. I will be disappointed if Roberto doesn't take some opportunity to get some youngsters on the bench and onto the pitch at some stage this season.
