Everton Youth Teams Thread

It's a terrific tournament and quite competitive. The rules for this year's tournament set the U19's as "U19: Male players born August 1, 1996 & later" - thoughts on who may be in the squad? I've some business travel to Dallas that I need to schedule, so if I can work it just right.....
Hope you can get the right scheduling, looks a fun tournament to go to.

Liam Walsh missed all of the last comp as he got knocked out in the initial minutes of the first game so would have liked to have seen him get a second chance but presume that he'll stay on loan at Yeovil as he's doing so well there.

Only saw Dowells goal against Southampton this morning. Lovely strike and bobby gushing about him.

I don't see enough underage games. Whats his all round play like? Is he really as close to 1st team as bobby suggests?

Also delighted to see Tarashaj still scoring in Switzerland. Sign of a good head on his shoulders. Would be easy to lose focus when leaving his club next season

He's the real deal. Great movement and knows what he needs to do with the ball before he gets it so he's invariably a split second ahead of the opposition (though unfortunately sometimes for his own team mates as well).

Goes from 20-27 March, no u21 fixtures then but an u18 one on 19th , so likely to be u21 based with a few u18s flying out. Ignoring the loan players, those too old, assume Mason Holgate back from injury and we could send a team experienced at U 21 level
: Hewelt; James Yates, Holgate, Callum Connolly, Matty Foulds; Joe Williams , Tom Davies; Harry Charsley, Anthony Evans, Kieran Dowell; Calum Dyson.
They play about 3 games so would need some u18s , maybe fly out a whole bunch of them certainly Broadhead, Lavery, Holland, Feeny, Lees, Donahue if back from loan , would all be worthy of consideration for an U19 squad.

Writing this down it just reminded me again that we have a pretty decent U21 team comprised of U19s , and it still leaves out the eligible Ledson, Kenny and Walsh . Nice.

An Everton Under-19s squad will take part in the 2016 Dallas Cup in March.

The Blues’ Academy have been invited to the prestigious youth tournament for a fourth time, having reached the semi-finals in 2015 and 2012.

....I know a lot of the lads are used to travelling and entering competitions abroad at club and international levels but the coaches find out so much about individuals at this type of event.

Agreed re finding out about individuals - how they take care of themselves is a big thing for the Club and for this type of event.

They'll have 3 guaranteed matches in pool play before (hopefully) moving into the knock out stages of the tournament. If they don't progress, the tournament often arranges friendlies with other clubs for the remainder of the week. So, fitness, rest, even temperament and good judgement will be vital!

He dovetailed very nicely with Barkley in pre season. I think Lukaku will love playing with his as well.

“Kieran is not going to go out on loan, his injury stopped him from having those 25 sessions he should’ve had with the first-team this season and clearly the programme is for him to have those before he needs to be reassessed and we see what he needs,” Martinez confirmed.

does this mean all players have to have 25 sessions with the 1st team before they go out on loan?

I thinking it's more of a progression phase ie Martinez wants him to train with the first team for experience before going on loan

I'm not sure if they all do but Walsh was definitely training with the first team before he left on loan.

Ya just when i read it for some reason brewster popped into my head and i was thinking he hardly done 25 sessions with the first team(i could be wrong) but i suppose might be different for him because he went on loan below league 2.

Yeah, there have been a few like Brewster, Graham, Thorniley , Donohue who have gone out to "non league" teams when they are 2nd year Scholars and limited/no u21 exposure. There seems to be a general rule that to go to a League club they have done 2 years as Scholars , played U 21s and had exposure to 1st team training - Ledson, Kenny , Grant, Henen for example. Then like any general rule there are exceptions like Walsh and (nearly) Dowell both still 2nd years but with 1st team training exposure and following a programme that includes loan experience.
As ever just me surmising on criteria, don't know for certain as an obvious candidate for a loan would be Joe Williams but maybe he's seen as central to our u21 team's success and progress.
