Everton Youth Teams Thread

Most young players only get a chance when senior players are out though.

He hasn't shied away from having to do that and put players out of position etc.

Agreed - No manager is going to bench a senior player just because they have signed someone young. Generally an injury or a poor run of games gives the youngster their shot. It think what you look at is, does Martinez sign folks like Hitzsleberger for depth or does he look younger and someone he can groom. To me he generally looks younger with a long range plan in mind. The two notable exceptions I think were Kone and Alcaraz and I believe they were brought in as Martinez wanted depth AND someone familiar with his style of play to ease the transition.

Lennon was someone that could provide a spark to the first team and did just that.

.... So I guess it's also seen as a good scouting trip as well, and the chance to build relationships with foreign clubs........

For the elite clubs, like Everton, I agree this would seem to be a strong scouting opportunity of players / clubs they won't normally see, such as in the case of Tomas Andrade. But then, I don't have a feel for how extensive our scouting organization is for leagues located farther abroad.

For younger ages in this tournament (along with dozens of others in the US), they are also seen as "Showcase" tournaments for college scouts to identify players for US collegiate play opportunities.
- As a ref, it's a great tool to use in player management, saying "don't be stupid and get tossed out of the match when there are scouts watching".
- As a parent of a former college player, it's great fun to watch the players' parents and coaches trying to get scouts to notice their kids.

Yep, agree entirely mate!

....my son was sent some great pictures of one of his Dubai mates with the players at last night's racing at Meydan. From the shots it only looks like Pennington has made the trip from those youngsters not around the 1st team squad.
Involved with the fa cup squad to wasnt he?.interesting.has he been involved in any premier league matchday squads?cant remember:(

Pennington and browning both 21 galloway holgate 19.you would wonder whats the future hold for these lads especially with jags, mori and stones here already.cant imagine these lads wanting to wait forever for their place.stones to be moved on during the summer to free up a place and hopefully get big money in at the same thing?

If Stones leaves we'd buy a new CB anyway. I'm not sure if Browning will ever being a starter for us really but Holgate at 19 is still very young for a CB.

I wonder as well if players like Williams, Connolly and Davies to name three would have made the same progress if Ledson , Grant and others had stayed at the club this season ?

Well that is essentially the plan isn't it. Send older lads out and give opportunities to younger lads. In the past though I think we accelerated the process, whereas this season I think it's not been reversed just slowed down.

Ah ya with holgate i was just looking at 2 or 3 years down the line.suppose browning is good cover for seamie at the minute while kennys progress is being monitored.

Jags won't go on a great deal longer I wouldn't have thought.

Still be there for another 2 or 3 years you would imagine though and with mori 24 years old i was just wondering out loud about the prospects of a couple of the lads there around 21 years old.do they wait for there chance or make a break for it soon?or more than likely end up being released or get a few quid if were lucky.so hard for young lads to make the break through:)

so hard for young lads to make the break through:)
A wee while back I looked at the England squad in their two last games , end 2015. Only four players had actually come through the academy of the club they were currently with, Ross, Kane & Ryan Mason at Spurs and one of the ManU players , can't remember who . For big clubs , despite their Academies, it is obviously easier to buy in established talent or
young players coming through at another Academy . Our team and squad virtually always comprises of Internationals, Galloway only recent exception. That's the standard set, to break through they're going to have to oust someone of international standard, unless they get "lucky" with a stream of injuries to players ahead of them. I do hope we can have the patience with our current 18 year olds and below. but it worries me that we don't. I'm fine with buying the likes of Niasse but concerned we nearly paid £4 mill for Sam Byrne.
To break through our youngsters are going to have to have exposure in PL squads . If we can get 3 or 4 into the squads over the next few years it would then enable us to target spending on a few expensive players in positions were they are needed. It means that we stop buying the likes of Gibson, McGeedy etc move on faithfull servants like Osman and even Barry eventually and let the youngsters take their place on the bench, using the money saved wisely to buy the next Lukaku if necessary.

Ya thats it,these lads need to be getting exposure to the first team.i know its hard to do seen how the premier league is so results driven due to the money involved but why spend all that money on academys, training centres, staff, coaches and players if its rare these lads are giving a go especially seen how were not blessed with money but i think it will get harder and harder to break through as we cant even give these lads a run out in the cups because we want to win one so bad and next to near impossible in the league.
I suppose thats why its good to at least make the europa league where it might be the only place we could try them out.im sure if your 21 and not a regular in the 1st team squad at this stage do you possibly want to waste another couple of years trying or take a chance elsewhere.
