Everton Youth Teams Thread

In the England u18s there are 2 players at championship level and one at stuttgart

In the England u19s there are 5 players at championship level or below and one at RC Lens

In the England u21s there are 8 players at championship level.

This could increase with Villa, Sunderland and Newcastle if all go down.

I'm just wondering why we (or other clubs) arent going after these types? Of course it could be that we have players of other nationalities in these positions or even players that we are developing who we feel can become better than their counterparts.

However theres almost 30 players there in England yourh squads and surely some must be good enough to be signed by us in the same way we signed Matty Foulds? Seems a bit strange that they arent on the move more frequently once they get England games as id expect a premier league club to be after them...

Maybe because they aren't seen to be of the required level or the young players we have are seen as better in them positions.

Theres 30 players there though. I know england and everton needs and scouts are different of course and some may be brilliant now in their age group but never improve....

However, we have bought Foulds and hes not played for england which to me seems a bit odd as if we think hes got potential then id imagine england would also or at least put him in a squad after we bought him....if you know what im getting at, just seems odd.

Also, on the goalkeeping side it seems that we have 9 keepers but none are very good it seems...surely we should be signing the best available at that age rather than going for free transfer keepers?

There seems to be a lot of good young players who don't get a look in for England, and some really good young players who play and then never get back into the squad. I wouldn't use England, especially youth, as a barometer for ability.

Sure agreed...just seems odd that so many are not in the prem...good for the game overall but surprised chelsea or city havent snapped them up.

Keeper wise, Butland then Pickford have been great for England youth and now in the prem as first choices. Freddie Woodman i heard is the next one along at newcastle, son of Crystal Palaces old keeper Andy Woodman i think @Alan Whittle ?

So imo im not sure why we have 9 keepers yet no players other than stanek signed for money, just we scoop up the released ones on frees.

Yes. Andy Woodman is a former Palace keeper (albeit never played a league game). He knows Pardew and was goalkeeping coach at Newcastle before joining Palace in the same role. His lad Freddy is highly rated at Newcastle.

Didnt realise that he never played a league game for you...interesting hes now at palace yet his son is at newcastle.

Do you think he may move to you guys? I heard some very positive things about him. Meant to be the next english keeper on the conveyor belt.
 
Woodman was let go by manager Alan Smith at the end of the Championship winning 93/94 season in fairly acrimonious circumstances. The two still do not speak. Woodman had covered for Big Nige for the whole of that season and played most of the reserve games but Smith decided a step up to the Premier League warranted the purchase of Rhys Wilmott from Arsenal with young Jimmy Glass ( whose goal later famously kept Carlisle in the league) from the youth team providing the cover.
We need a decent keeper. Both Hennesey and McCarthy are decent shot stoppers but complete flappers otherwise. A lot of popular sentiment for bringing back folk hero Speroni but would be like you lot giving Big Nev a game.

What happened to speroni? Very decent keeper for your lot during pulls times
