Everton Youth Teams Thread

http://www.evertonfc.com/news/2016/03/16/england-calls-for-young-blues

More players called up to the England youth teams. Interesting that Anthony Evans has got into the U18 squad, IIRC he had never been called up by England before.

Notable absentee is Liam Walsh, possibly explained by him just coming back from an illness which means he hasn't played recently.
James Yates is also "dropped" from u18s squad too , though he seems to have had an iffy season. Certain players like Walsh and Dowell have , for whatever reason they have, never figured regularly in the England set up so no real surprise there . Nice to see Evans getting in , it did seem an odd omission , but maybe explained by being 1st year Scholar, Davies /Holland 2nd year but same birth year for Internationals.

I'm presuming that Griffiths and Holgate are now too old for u 20s, great for Joe Williams though, he's done really well this season and deserves a cap. I must admit at the start of the season I struggled to see how he would compete with other youngsters in midfield . 2 Defensive Mid ? Ledson and Davies. 3 Attcking mids ? Walsh , Evans and Dowell. But he's really stepped up. Although only one friendly it's a good platform to get yourself noticed for further internationals and people ringing Unsy/Royle up about a loan.

As someone who rolls his eyes at and avoids the "fantasy Everton teams" " Best players from the past teams" that will never happen I should n't be doing this , but here's a team of our recent u21/U20/ u19/18 selected internationals . This harshly omits Dowell and Walsh as they havent been selected in the past 6 months, pinches Broadhead from the Welsh team, ignores other internationals out there like Tarashaj and goes "433." Not bad eh , now if only I had a crystal ball as to who will make it ...
Griffiths
Kenny, Holgate, Connolly , Galloway.

Ledson Williams, Davies.

Holland Broadhead Evans

Kennys looking good atm and be great to see him eventually taking over from seamie.
Galloways a strange one isn't he.seems to have really stalled and might just end up being a middle of the road solid defender but not for us maybe.i wonder has pennington jumped ahead of him in the centre back queue.so shove connolly out to left back and swap galloway for pennington.
Is brewster not up for inclusion?sorry now not well informed when it comes to englands underage teams.

Sorry mate , Pennington at 22 hasn't played for England lately, neither has Brewster , both score you 100 points neither are a Pointless answer.

anyone know if any of these games will be on the telly?
From past experience I would guess that the u19 s will definitely be on as the games are in the Elite Round of the UEFA Under-19s European Championship and therefore competitive. U 20s and u 18 s are friendlies, and less likely to be shown. Sky, BT or Eurosport are good options.

Sorry , its me that's wrong, he's 21 though born in 94 not 22 til October.

In some ways he seems a bit like Shane Duffy who left us for Blackburn, a good solid defender, maybe not PL but sound as a Championship player. The dilemma is how do you tell when defenders develop/reach their peak later and as youngsters inevitably hit a poor spot of form or inconsistency at some time . Good examples are Stones and Galloway , a few wobbles and suddenly they are not rated as they once were, fortunately theyve done enough in the past . I'm not sure Pennington will make it with us , but I hope he gets the chance to develop a bit more. Jags and Baines were older when they really made the breakthrough , then you balance that with we can't keep everyone and come the summer we are more likely to buy in a new Center Half if it is believed we need one rather than wait a year or so to see if he is really PL material.

....it's so tough for any youngster to break through and this will increasingly be the case now we have money. Saying that, the young professionals will be on a fine salary and if Pennington doesn't make it with us he will probably have a good career in football.

What age category does Dowell fall into to, find it strange he isn't good enough or have I got him totally wrong.

From what I've seen him Williams and Davies are the best youngsters we have.

Ya thought he was 21 alright because was only looking at his profile after the sunderland game.
Ya wouldn't be to worried about stones because he is older than brendan and has alot more games under his belt in his preferred position and looks so comfortable on the ball(a bit to much according to some)so brendan has a small bit more time for development but just so hard to know with him.i was disappointed he didn't play centre half in the sunderland game because wanted to see him there to see how he went but with pennington being older and supposedly further down the line and galloway playing full back for the seniors you could understand why that was.
Ya we have brought this up before about the money side of things that now it could be a case of just throwing money at a position as opposed to seeing do we have a player coming up that could possibly fill that position.it is going to be more and more important maybe that we are regularly qualifing for europe so we can start blooding a few of these young lads in group stage games because it's nearly impossible to do it in the league and because we havn't won a domestic trophy in so long it's really hard to be giving them a shot in the cups as well.

From what I've seen him Williams and Davies are the best youngsters we have.

Dowell is 18 and a 2nd year Scholar . Scholars are by school age as of 1st Sept, Internationals are of 1st Jan. So Dowell, Connoly , Walsh can all play for our u18s but are u19s at International level. Similarly , Holland and Davies are also 2nd year Scholars but at 17 can play International at u18.

No I don't think you've got him wrong. These youngsters all seem to have different strengths, maybe Dowell lacks the tenacity of a Walsh , goal poaching ability of Evans , drifts out of games at times but to my mind he's the one with the purest skills. His recent goals have attracted attention , but he scored another cracker with his left on his comeback from injury against Stoke for the u18s. I watched the Bayern v Juve extra time tonight . A young Bayern player ran onto the ball into space down the right, stopped moved inside and curled a lovely left foot shot into the far corner. My first thought was " Dowell can do that" , which was probably embarrassing over hype from me given I was watching two of the best teams in Europe in a CL tie. The goalscorer was a 19 year old called Kingsley Coman , on loan from Juve ( no I don't get how he played against them) has also played originally for PSG , long history of French u16-u21 internationals , one of the best young prospects in Europe so it really is a bit laughable from me to mention Dowell in that context . I tend to be cautious in my thinking of only playing youngsters when they are ready , particularly a defender who could get roasted in a PL match. But I'm now thinking we should stick Dowell into the squad sooner rather than later even if he's not quite ready. Give him a chance , even as a sub in the derby, give him Osmans bench spot and maybe we'll find out what he really has.

Anyone who follows regularly the 18s/21s know who the next player to break through would possibly be?

I watched the 21s vs Sunderland last week and I wasn't overly impressed. I thought Rodriguez looked lively and clever playing just off front man. Pennington was solid and will at least make a football league side. Galloway was very poor on the night putting it down as an off day as I've seen him much much better in the first team.
Other than that there wasn't a Rooney or Barkley in the making not even close
