Everton Youth Teams Thread

There's a nice clip on the OS " u21s spread Easter cheer" . While as ever it shows the excellent stuff we do in the community there is a brief interview with Antonee Robinson . It's nice to see him back, no idea why he's been missing for the last 7 months presumably injury or illness . At 18 he showed quite a bit of talent in the pre season games, all be it in an area , left back, which will be difficult to break into. Good luck to him on his return , this from his Twitter yesterday "First time ive ran outside in 7 months today buzzin!"

.....major injuries are bad but it must be dreadful when they happen at a pivotal time in a youngsters career. Fingers crossed he can make the time up, I suppose Barkley can be an example for anybody in that position.

Yeah it must be tough mentally as well as physically . He's a year ahead of Connolly for instance, and certainly last pre season was selected ahead of him . Connolly's had a good season at u21s,is now out on loan , with England u19s and we've also bought Matty Foulds who can also play left back. As well as Ross , McAleny is a good example in that as a club we've given him extra time to prove himself after a bad injury, so presumably Robinson will also get the time he will need to come back properly.
 

At the start of next season I wouldn't loan any u21s out for 1st 6 games and tell them to go unbeaten. My team would be something like this.

Griffiths
Kenny Holgate Galloway Connolly Ledson Williams
Henen Walsh Dowell
Duffus

I would then get as many out on loan as I could to try and get first team football under there belts. The older players would be Championship level the younger players league 1. This would get them experience playing with each other in our system and then some proper meaningful football as well.

We often forget that
a) the other clubs are not obligated to take or play our youth team just because we think they need first team experience
b) there are 19 other PL clubs (plus Championship for lower teams) who are also after the same loans.

I don't expect us to force players on teams but surely there will be some teams interested in getting players in at little cost. Some will find clubs but if they can't find them at a high enough level in this country there may be opportunities abroad.

I'm sure there are (which is why quite a few of our players are out on loan). But when you think that at the beginning of the season there are probably 15 Championship clubs who think they might have a realistic chance of promotion to the financial Disneyland of the Premier League, then the opportunities for good youth team players who need to be guaranteed a start (as opposed to experienced old hands from other teams, cheap Continential imports or even their own youth) are fairly limited, especially when you consider that most teams will have got what they consider a decent squad together and there are only minimal 'holes' to fill and plenty of potential PL loanees on offer.

Then we haven't even thought about whether the player (and/or their agent) wants to drop down into a certain league or to go abroad...

I agree it's not easy but most of them players will make it at some level but the likelihood is only maybe 2 or if we are lucky 3 will make it here. Perhaps the opportunity to get a look at some players will tempt teams but I appreciate your point that there is only so many loan places but we might as well keep hold of them ourselves rather than drop to a level too low!
